Anybody else miss chrome parts?

Not really, since they never stayed chrome for very long.
I was going to point out, between the chrome and transparent-fluro-yellow, I think this set is the 90s-est of all 90s sets.
Looks real space-y
I loved this set. That is one radical looking buggy thing.
Love a RSOTD X-Treme Team cameo!
It certainly is an extreme set with all the colors and the chrome and the big wheels...
I clearly remember when a Belville set called "Princess and the Pea" on a random LEGO themed website (not Brickset or BL) had a picture of this set instead of the correct one. It was a while ago, but it was hilarious.
You can tell the driver is a nineties edgelord thinking of style over practicality because all that chrome and neon is going to get scratched to hell by the sand dunes he's driving along XD

Yes I first thought it was an M-Tron set :)
Whoa! You got a trans yellow windscreen and a helmet with a visor! Super protection right there.
Those chrome exhausts pipes are amazing. And surprising to me, as I did not know that Lego had produced some.
Corona stay inside challenge! Spacify this dune buggy!
*just attaches a bunch of rocket engines and the 6923 helicopter part because that thing rocks on everything*
1998 had strong signs of the Dark Ages creeping into Lego... this was one of a better City offerings but pretty much was a hi-mod 6648.
Man, those chrome pipes are amazing. I think I'll pick up some of those parts from Bricklink some day.
To be fair, the Extreme Team were stunt show drivers / pilots (at least according to UK Lego Adventures magazine), so it's not really surprising to me that their vehicles were very over-the-top, design-wise; in-universe they would have been meant to impress the audience more than to actually be practical ^^
It looks like Space Police Car.
Ah, the memories! This was one of my very first LEGO System sets... sending me down a long road of LEGO mania for the next two decades.

How so? What did you do to them?
All the chrome parts I have got in my sets from the time still look just like they did back then.

Not being rude but just search worn lego chrome or lego chrome issues. Lots comes up.
One of the first sets I remember having!!! So glad I rebuilt this and put it up on my shelf.
This set was in a random tub of Lego I bought a while back. Instead of trading or selling it I'm holding on to it to give my nephews once they're old enough.
This was one of my first sets when I was little. I still have those chrome pipes, they're still quite shiny.
I bought this for the side exhaust pipes.
