Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker introduces the latest Y-wing variant, featuring highly advanced sensors and shielding. 75263 Resistance Y-wing Starfighter Microfighter cannot incorporate any internal details but notably diverges from other Y-wing Microfighter models.

The red, white and light bluish grey colours are certainly distinctive while the engine nacelles have been strengthened when compared with 75162 Y-wing Microfighter. This set also includes an appealing Zorii Bliss minifigure which is only otherwise available with the larger 75249 Resistance Y-wing Starfighter.

Please be aware this review is spoiler free.

Minifigure

The excellent Zorii Bliss minifigure seems certain to prove popular, featuring an impressive helmet which closely resembles the source material. This pearl gold component includes fantastic moulded detail and the dual-moulded visor is perfectly shaped, alongside the narrow vocoder grille. Authentic decoration continues onto the reverse but the head underneath this helmet is plain black.

Zorii's dark red clothing appears equally accurate. The subtle bands and metallic gold highlights look superb, although I would rather the latter colour matched the helmet more closely. Arm printing would also have been welcome because Zorii sports gold armbands onscreen but the holster designs on her legs are executed perfectly.

Two pearl dark grey flintlock pistols are provided, representing Zorii's E-851 blaster pistols. They are reasonably faithful to the movie and have only appeared in six previous sets so I am delighted to see these elements again here. Another blaster pistol is included as a spare too which is always pleasing.

The Completed Model

BTA-NR2 Y-wing Starfighters seem reasonably similar to the earlier BTL-A4 variants which appeared during the Original Trilogy. This model therefore shares similarities with 75162 Y-wing Microfighter but corresponds with the source material and rectifies certain issues which affected the earlier design. For instance, the 2020 vessel feels considerably more robust, especially around the engines.

The cockpit is constructed around brackets which is effective, although these remain partially visible beneath the 2x4 wedge slopes. I like these slopes along either flank though and the 4x4 wedge plate looks wonderful here. There is enough space for Zorii Bliss to fit inside the cockpit but no controls are provided and the minifigure's arms must be held aloft which seems rather awkward.

However, I like the rotating ion cannon turret. This weapon is oversized and accordingly conforms to the exaggerated proportions of other Microfighters. The flick-fire missiles could have been integrated more neatly though and mechanical is limited. Nevertheless, the designer has made brilliant use of a 1x2 jumper plate which cleverly depicts the circular deflector shield generator.

Fortunately, the engine nacelles feature far greater detail. The flick-fire missile components provide ample strength but appear suitably slender and I love the dark bluish grey 1x2 rounded plates which create great texture. In addition, the trans-pink glow at the tip of each engine matches the movie and the red stripes complement those around the cockpit.

Overall

Zorii Bliss could potentially attract many people to 75263 Resistance Y-wing Starfighter Microfighter given her earlier exclusivity to 75249 Resistance Y-wing Starfighter. This is definitely an outstanding minifigure, accurately recreating the original character. Her associated starfighter seems slightly less interesting in my opinion but captures the most prominent features of its source material.

While this is not necessarily among my favourite Microfighters, particularly in comparison with 75264 Kylo Ren's Shuttle Microfighter, I appreciate the improved availability of Zorii Bliss. The price of £8.99 or $9.99 feels appropriate too and this model of the updated Y-wing Starfighter offers substantial play value which is vitally important.

Way better price for what you get than the big one, that’s for sure.

For SW minifig collectors, this is an easy buy, since she is only available in one other set that is way more expensive.

The vehicle holds up well in microfighter form which is a rarity. Also it seems to be formed from an interesting array of pieces making it a great spare parts pack if you’re primarily getting it for the minifig as I will be. Regarding the minifig, it’s lovely, and it’s inclusion in a cheap set is a welcome gift for the fans.

Good minifig, useful parts pack.

I am going to ask but I suspect there isn't a face underneath her helmet.

This one went straight onto the list.
If the face is blank, a suitable one will be swapped in

Got this almost solely for the helmet. No interest in the movie character, she didn't really serve a purpose other than to highlight that no, Poe wasn't gay, but I love the helmet design. Plan on using it in future sci-fi MOCs/brickfilms for sure.

The torso and legs almost have an ancient Egyptian vibe to them. I'm sure there's something I can MOC there.

The build of the Y-Wing is nice too. Will definitely fix the cockpit and have it as a mini-build all its own rather than just parting it out.

Cool set!

I like the Microfighters, same as I liked the Mighty Micros line. They were cute and fun, and a great way to get a kid into Lego without breaking the bank.

I'd love to see a happy medium between Microfighters and "full-scale" ships. $10 for a chibi Y-Wing or $70 for a "normal" is a pretty yawning gap. Would there be a market for a $30 ship that's slightly scaled down and comes with 2 minifigs but still has OK detail?

@WemWem I think you just desribed the 4+ sets!

I dont think there is anything to spoil re the movie past the fact that Zorii Bliss was in it. I cant think of anything more to say about her.

She also helped introduce Baba Friek: "Yayyyy."

@Lordmoral I had literally forgotten about that character and kind of wish I could've stayed ignorant X'D

In all seriousness, I bet there'll be a microfig/baby-fig of him soon. More TROS sets are inevitable and as much as the film left me with a great sense of all-encompassing gloom, it had a lot of pretty vehicles, interesting locations, and characters that'd be great minifigures.

Was wondering, is her helmet dual-molded, or gold and a black visor piece?

Just built this a few minutes before logging on. What irony!

I bought it for the minifigure but found myself pleasantly surprised by the effort done to make it distinct from the previous Y-Wing microfighter, which is a favorite of mine in the range. Zorrii looks ridiculous at the controls, but a cool minifig and a cool microfighter is still a good buy to me.

It's nice to see LEGO start taking more risk with putting main characters in their iconic vehicles.

Piggybacking on a few comments about Microfighters vs. System vs. 4+ vs UCS. I recently built the 4+ Snowspeeder and love it as it reminds me of the Kenner ships.

Agree that LEGO should consider a middle range of sets... I really liked the detailed mini ships found in the Buildable Planet range that was then replaced by often, odd-looking Microfighters, however, both are too small. 4+ are fun, but not detailed enough... The Tie-Advanced from Darth Vader’s Castle, Slave-I and Cloud Car from Betrayal at Cloud City seem to be the sweet spot.

For any who bought or saw the Yuletide Xmas-Wing (google MarketingKitchenTV for my video on it), I love Yoda’s hut that doubles as a display stand. That would be a US$160 set if sold at retail, which is way too much...

But what if LEGO followed the scale of the 3 sets I mentioned as examples, offering 4 minifigures (not including R2, BB-8 or D-O type) and a build of a related station, planet, scene that doubled as a stand for display? I think these would be a big win! If that drove the price point too high, then simply the ship and 4 minis.

Speaking of, I’ve pitched the idea of a raised or flat but printed 32x32 baseplate with mins, build and ship to LEGO multiple times. Can you imagine how cool this would be? Think of Death Star: Hanger or Trench, Cloud City: Various Locations, Tatooine, Mustafar, Hoth, Endor, Naboo, Batuu, Genosis, etc...

Just a thought...
