Review: BrickHeadz Bride and Groom

LEGO has produced a number of wedding favour sets in the past featuring the bride and groom in minifigure form and I suspect they are very popular with AFOLs wanting to add a hint of their hobby to their big day.

This year's offerings are a bit different: 40383 Wedding Bride and 40384 Wedding Groom depict the happy couple as BrickHeadz. Like 41597 Go Brick Me they come with plenty of parts to enable them reproduce just about anyone in blocky character form.

Whether the non-AFOL half of the couple will be happy with that is another matter...

40384 Wedding Groom

By default, the groom is attired in black top hat and tails. His waistcoat/shirt/tie is printed, in silver, on a 1x2x2 brick which is one of two new parts in the set.

If you don't want the top hat, enough pieces are provided to cover the top of his head with hair. The mustache can be ditched, too, and you can add square glasses if you wish. Need a different colour buttonhole? Five are provided.

If the groom is planning on wearing a blue suit on the day, so can the BrickHeadz:

In fact there are a lot of customisation options available: three skin tones and three hair colours which if the hat, mustache and glasses options are accounted for adds up to 143 variations (there are not enough parts to have both brown skin and brown hair)

40383 Wedding Bride

The bride wears a white dress with lace detail around her neck. The 1x4 printed brick is the other new piece in the set.

She holds a bouquet in one hand a ring in the other. I believe this is the first BrickHeadz to wear earrings.

She has a white veil in her hair and a colourful bow in the back of her dress which, like the flowers in her hair and on the front of her dress, can be swapped for other colours as required.

Like the groom, she also comes with plenty of parts for changing skin tone and hair colour.

Verdict

I think they are a great addition to the BrickHeadz line-up, although probably not something that all collectors of the blocky figures will buy.

The myriad customisation options available for both bride and groom should make it possible to build just about any couple and, if you need two grooms or two brides, no problem: they are sold separately.

I can see that an AFOL couple would appreciate these, perhaps perched on top of their cake on the big day but, as I said, I do worry that a non-AFOL bride/groom will most likely object to being depicted as a short and stubby cube. That's an issue the AFOL groom/bride will have to resolve...

They are now available from LEGO.com (Groom | Bride) for £11.99 / $12.99 each, which seems like a bit of a bargain considering how many spare parts are in them.

Thanks to LEGO for providing the sets for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Pretty neat!
Never really liked BrickHeadz, but this set is quite nice!

Best releases since go brick me.

What if both halves of the couple are AFOLs? Doesn’t seem so implausible!

Personally I love these as sets but I still think I’d prefer minifigures on top of my cake.

Nicely comprehensive review!

‹Probably unpopular opinion›
It's great that they're sold separately, allowing for two brides or two grooms! It's a shame it's all so old-fashioned; white dress, veil, etc.
They should re-release Go Brick Me as a fun civil partnership set!

By in Ireland,

I like the customisation these allow, like the Go Brick Me set.

@Huw, just a note on the earrings, the Belle Brickheadz 41595 had them first I think.

Actually, Jack Sparrow 41593 had one earring so that might not count since it's not earringS.

I wanted to put minifigures on our wedding cake but it looked so nice I decided to put them beside the cake instead. So if one of the couple isn't an AFOL, these figures may be better used more for things like fun photos before the day rather than at the ceremony

By in Singapore,

Great review to start the year. These look to be great parts packs as well.

"(there are not enough parts to have both brown skin and brown hair)"

Is this really the case? The box art shows otherwise, at least for certain hairstyles anyway.

@LegoSonicBoy you can have medium nougat skin and brown hair as shown, but not brown hair and brown skin. I suspect there is not much requirement for that anyway, if only because there'd be no colour differentiation and it would look a bit odd.

We are, however, only talking a couple of plates and tiles.

Nice Brickheadz, but even better parts packs. £12 for around 300 pieces is great value. And love that these are sold separately for any LGBT couples. Also great to have many skin colour options. Always nice of LEGO to think of everyone.

I'm going to get one of each mostly to have their parts but I guess I'll build my self.

Great review @Huw

Yo, you should have showed, at least, one color swap varriant.

My fiance and I are both into lego, so this is perfect for us! Although I worry that my idea to provide them as gifts to people attending the wedding will get a bit expensive...

The diversity options and same-sex partnership inclusion are the best “features” of this set.

"Bwon hair:" I found a typooooo

Still haven't gotten my hands on Go Brick Me, but it and these are great for making custom Brickheadz. Might just be the BIONICLE nerd in me, but I love getting to rebuild and customize characters even if it's a simple color swap. Like that they're sold separately too, though it seems odd the groom has two tux colors but the bride only has one dress.

By in Netherlands,

Go Brick Me seemed to retire very fast , wonder why.

Lego.com only had it from 02 Apr 18 - 08 Nov 18 in Europe.

Customizability / value on this seems nice as well, especially due to being 2 seperate sets.

Too bad it doesn't look like there is enough/right kind of parts to make medium nougat hair, as that most closely matches my partner's hair colour. Happy New Year to Huw and the team.

I like this fandom <3
I'm happy with everyone being happy about the LGBT comment.

By in Germany,

Nice parts packs for sure. Also like the idea that both are sold separately.

I can't be the only one who is missing the option for red hair? Black, brown and blonde is included plus the different skin tones. Why no red hair?! It's one of the four basic hair colours a person can have. Dissappointing.

@Huw: Derp, I misread your original text as "brown skin and black hair". Yeah, definitely not brown both, and as you said it would be difficult to tell the two apart.

Guess I might have to venture to my local or wait for them to come back in stock.
