Review: 75264 Kylo Ren's Shuttle Microfighter

Microfighters have become an excellent source for enjoyable minifigures and 75264 Kylo Ren's Shuttle Microfighter definitely impresses in that regard. Kylo Ren typically appears in larger sets and this version is only otherwise included with 75256 Kylo Ren's Shuttle.

This accompanying rendition of an intimidating Upsilon-class Command Shuttle seems rather appealing too, striking an appropriate balance between accuracy and traditional Microfighter styling. For those reasons, I anticipate this 72-piece set might prove interesting, despite its comparatively modest size.

Please be aware this review is spoiler free.

Minifigure

After destroying his menacing helmet during Star Wars: The Last Jedi Star Wars, Kylo Ren reforges this distinctive mask in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. This component accordingly features red cracks where repairs have been made, matching 75256 Kylo Ren's Shuttle where the same helmet appears. However, this minifigure lacks the fabric cape that is available in the larger rendition of the Upsilon-class Shuttle.

Kylo Ren's torso is similarly familiar, featuring metallic silver stitching and an intricate belt buckle that corresponds precisely with the movie. These designs continue across the legs while the double-sided head features sunken eyes beside an accurate scar. I love the differing severe and angry expressions which certainly capture the character's personality.

This minifigure wields an impressive crossguard lightsaber. Its pearl dark grey hilt seems reasonably faithful to the source material and this trans-red blade component looks marvellous, even though the quillons do not emanate directly from the hilt.

The Completed Model

Unusual proportions are an integral feature of Microfighters but this version of Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle remains immediately recognisable. Its black colour scheme reflects the source material and I am impressed with its angular design too. This craft measures 7cm in height with its wings in landing position which feels ideal for play, particularly since the model is very robust.

Moreover, the wings are connected to the fuselage using click hinges, enabling them to fold outwards during flight. The design is extremely simple and works perfectly, although such large dark bluish grey elements appear slightly out of place. Nevertheless, I appreciate how the requisite stud shooters have been integrated and the trans-red lights on each wing are lovely.

There is ample space for Kylo Ren to slot inside the cockpit. I like the printed control panel positioned here and the trans-red viewport looks superb, alongside some authentic mechanical details. However, the consistency of the black colour scheme could have been improved here because dark bluish grey pieces are sprinkled throughout the model and several could have been replaced.

Viewing this vehicle from behind displays two cylindrical engines which make great use of 2x2 round profile bricks. They appear disproportionately large here, conforming to the Microfighters standard as engines are often enlarged while wings are shortened. That is particularly apparent in the case of this shuttle should feature remarkably long wings but I think the truncated design is effective.

Overall

The success of any Microfighter is decided by two factors, in my opinion. Capturing the most notable features of their respective subject matters is important and including wonderful minifigures is always beneficial too. 75264 Kylo Ren's Shuttle Microfighter definitely satisfies both requirements, containing an extremely popular character and recreating the integral features of their vehicle!

Extendable wings would have been great and certain aspects of the colour scheme could have been improved. However, these models are designed for younger builders so providing several contrasting dark bluish grey pieces might improve their building experience. On that basis, I am pleased with this set and would recommend it to particular fans of the Upsilon-Class Command Shuttle or anyone who has not acquired Kylo Ren.

By in Venezuela,

This Kylo Ren Shuttle doesn't even appear in The Rise of Skywalker

By in Latvia,

I will have to get this because I don't have a Kylo Ren minifigure!

By in Germany,

No hair piece? ?? that’s unfortunate but a great way to get Kylo ren

By in Netherlands,

@OscarWRG it did. It could be seen briefly in a certain hangar (won't say anything more than that because of spoilers)

By in Hungary,

Shame about the absence of a hair piece.

By in Brazil,

I admire the representation of the model but his TIE Fighter would be more movie accurate. This should have come in 2015 with Force Awakens wave, where this ship had a very obvious spotlight.

By in Poland,

As castle fan I adore the torso

@OscarWRG the craft makes a small appearance inside a hangar roughly halfway through the film.

By in France,

Thank you for your good review. I have ordered this one yesterday just to get this version of KR minifig, otherwise available in a much more expensive set.

By in Puerto Rico,

This is actually a nice way to get my first and so far only Kylo Ren, not planning to buy any other ST set but this.

By in Singapore,

For almost the entirety of Rise of Skywalker, Ren is in his tie fighter or on the star destroyer.

By in United States,

Found this and the Y-wing for sale on December 19. I liked getting them before official release, but I have yet to build them.

I think it looks like a good build and a great addition to my my microfighters collection.

"Unusual proportions are an integral feature of Microfighters"

No kidding, @CapnRex101 !

By in United States,

It appears 3X, very briefly, from the same hanger. I too, was disappointed that they came out with a large model in the Fall for no reason but to address what was not from The Force Awakens.

By in Australia,

I'm definitely buying this set to add to my son's collections of microfighters.
