one of two sets that year to contain Buckbeak.
“This book is useless; I’m tired of it; plus it’s a boring read”
*Kick*
Bookbeak
I will say, though, that I'm glad they upgraded the Buckbeak figure, this year.
I usually try to get at least one set from each theme, but I skipped Harry Potter theme altogether. I don't hate them, just not a fan of Lego Harry Potter.
A rare Harry Potter set without Harry Potter in it
A big rare animal mould, a owl, a printed book, a small tree build and a minifig (that is not Harry); so this set has fantastic value :D
If Lego make a similar small set now I would buy a lot of copies!
Well, it delivers what it promises.
Save that book Buckbeak! Eat Draco after!
@Zordboy, I respectfully disagree. I have the old and new hippogriffs in my display collection and like them both. But if I had to pick a favourite, I would say the old one. It’s more LEGO-y, i.e. it conforms more closely to the stylised, wooden toy aesthetic.
This set, which I got for Christmas, marked the beginning of my journey of collecting new and vintage Harry Potter sets! Recently, I was able to grab its complementary Hagrid's Hut for the retail price in eBay!
I will be honest, I quite like this old Hippogriff mould
Back when pumpkins were simply heads.
Can you imagine Lego releasing a set with, say, the sabretooth tiger from the arctic theme in its own small, pocket-money set? Would never happen nowadays...
@oldfan Lloyd's Journey.
I like paid around $25 for this in 2015 to get Buckbeak after no Harry Potter revival ever seemed to be coming. If it was going to return, I was expecting it to be along with sets for the Fantastic Beasts movie. Buckbeak has fallen in price on Bricklink from $20 to around $3 after the unanticipated reboot last year! Though I do have to say I do not regret it. Then old mold is just much more charming in some way, and I like the molded feathers continuing onto the body. The new one, in comparison, looks... shaved (and more like a Friends animal mold style).
Classic example of good introductory sets.
Well I own both Buckbeaks, and I honestly much prefer the new one. This one just looks like a statue, the new one looks far more like an animal.
