Bionicle? Never heard of it. Looks like the poor man’s version of Clikits.

By in Australia,

Gosh. I was really, genuinely hoping we were going to get a Clikit today again.

The system works! Vindication! Also, even though it's a good guy, but not THE Good Guy...

HAIL DENMARK!

No, 6934 is THE Good Guy. :)

^ Honestly, I think some of the Bionicle characters were created out of spare parts, that Lego staff found lying around the factory floor.

By in United States,

And then there's 7216 Gold Good Guy that comes with AA Duracell batteries

Perhaps it's some sort of James Bond knockoff.

@Zordboy: In the case of the polybag sets with basic names like "good guy"/"bad guy"/"function", they pretty much were. I believe most of these were produced as freebies packaged with magazines or other products (Duracell batteries in the case of at least one such set, as @TheWizardReborn alludes to).

So not much consideration went into designing them with any sort of unique identity or story role — they were more or less just to offer a minimal taste of the sort of building experience, parts, and play features you could expect to find in other Bionicle sets. Even among Bionicle fans, the ludicrous names and designs of impulse sets like this one tend to be sort of a running joke.

The small/impulse-sized Bionicle sets available as normal retail products tended to have much less wonky-looking colors and proportions… just compare this guy to 8929-1 or 8931-1 from the same year. Whether or not you care for the Bionicle design language (it's certainly understandable if you don't), retail sets like those tended to have more purposeful-looking designs even at a $5 price point.

Maybe Clikits will be tomorrow.

Part of me - a controversial part, to be sure - isn't sure about Bionicle's status as LEGO, but I do love when they come up as RSotD; someone will always go into incomprehensible but wonderful detail about the character's backstory and their role in the Bionicle world.
(Thanks for obliging as far as is possible in this case, Aanchir)

By in Germany,

I once bought a bunch of Bionicle parts dirt cheap on Bricklink out of curiosity, hoping I might be able to integrate them as interesting greebling in a space themed MOC some day. Up to now they are still lying in a box waiting to be used.

What a cool name!

You know, I was just thinking the other day that we hadn't seen a BIONICLE random set of the day for ages, and wondering if they'd been removed from Huwbot's algorithm.

Though honestly, I think we could have done better than *this* one xD Kind of looks like he's supposed to be Axonn's baby...

I had a quiet word with Huwbot last night about including Bionicle and 'Junior' sets (Jack Stone/Fabuland etc.) and he agreed to do so.

I'm surprised he picked one so soon, though. Let me calculate the odds of that happening... :)

By in United Kingdom,

@Huw FABULAND! Hooray - looking forward to one of those as a RSOTD.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Huw - Oh, cool! Thanks for including them again :D

I don't trust him. "Good guy 07?" That's way too on the nose, he's up to no good.

Not just Bionicle but obscure Bionicle.
Were there ever any Bionicle parts packs?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I have to say, 07 was a great addition to make the name sound cool xD

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Wait, Fabuland wasn't already in rotation? Why on earth not?!?

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Can we all agree on the sexyness of Quick Good Guy and Quick Bad Guy?
They are a wonderful representation of the armonious curves of the human body in the arts of seduction.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

^ No.

I'm a little bit psyched that we're likely to get some Fabuland sets popping up, though. If Galidor and Clikits can pop up occasionally (more than just occasionally, as the stats proved, with Clikits), then we can handle some Fabuland and Jack Stone every now and then. I mean, it's all still Lego.

Any chance we'll getting Duplo?

@EvilTwin - Yeah, there were several Ultimate Accessory Kits around 04/05 that were, I believe, essentially just job-lot of parts from a variety of other Bionicle sets... I assume because Lego had a surplus of some of the specialised parts and it was an easy way to get them off their hands. Never had any of those myself, though; I'm not sure they ever made it to the UK, I don't recall seeing them, only hearing about them online.

@Lucherinis - Here he is! https://brickset.com/sets/6945-1/Bad-Guy-07

RSotD: you can now imagine a cheesy jingle that introduces today's random set. Bionicle? Random fate sure has a twisted sense of humour.

By in United States,

Make Bionicle great again!

By in Netherlands,

This is actually one of the nicer and finished-looking Good Guy sets. It actually has feet, a hand piece on the arm that is not occupied by a weapon, and a mask (no head though).

By in United States,

This guy strikes me as a good guy.
