By in Australia,

I still remember looking at the '97 catalogue (we were on a family holiday at the time. I think one of my distant uncles was getting married) and being totally blown away by the Divers theme. The underwater landscapes, the subs, all the sea creatures ... and not a futuristic space-ish theme like Aquazone, but something that fit quite easily into a typical Lego city? I was hooked.

^certainly fits better into a city then the wacky release we got today with the guy chasing the rabbit. With a carrot.

I guess creativity abounds at Lego HQ.

Ah, Divers. In the late 90's, Lego had a thing with limited-release sets. They'd often have sets (as part of their normal themes) that were in stores but not LEGO.com catalogs, or were LEGO.com exclusives, or were available in the US but not Europe.

I think Divers was the zenith of that. Of the 10 core sets, five (including this one) were some variety of limited release.

I have this set but I must say the last City Diver theme we got in 2013 or 2014 was amazing too.

By in United Kingdom,

I remember I had the Divers set with the yellow shark cage on the boat and whale (?) skeleton. What a great sub-theme.

@David1985 I agree! I loved the look of these 1997 sets but they were sadly just before my time. I managed to pick up two of the really cool side-porthole pieces at a tag sale, and I'm so glad LEGO City had its own diving theme more recently.

I hope we get an early 2000's Arctic set as a RSOTD soon....

Oh, such a lovely theme this was. I wish I had them all. I just had the chance to get couple of smaller ones. Not this one though.

By in Germany,

Cool theme. Can't remember seeing any of these diver sets before though. Must have been a very limited release kind of theme.

By in Hong Kong,

Love it. I have the Deep Sea Refuge set. What a great set with lots of things happening!

By in United Kingdom,

lovely little set but not the highlight of the sub-theme (badum tissh), I really enjoyed looking at the bigger ones with such a variety of sea creatures.
A delight in an otherwise disappointing period of Town.

Great to see that our regular troll is alive and well.

I see a lot of puns in these comments fishing for likes :-)

Fish, fish, fish. A fishy requisite-t-t-t-t-t-t-t.

Hey, I just noticed that two of my favorite comedy shows of all time, Red Dwarf as well as Monty Python's Flying Circus both contain loads of fish references. :-)

By in Portugal,

Didn't knew about this one! I was familiar with the theme and liked it a lot, but this set I've never saw it in catalogues.

And what about that cockpit used in the 90's mostly for trains adapted in a boat? OMG, love it! Specially in white... Bricklink, here I go!

Interesting piece of Lego history, a container on a ship coming from Denmark was loaded with Divers theme elements destined for other overseas markets. The container became dislodged in a storm from the ship, fell into the North sea (I think) and spilled it's contents. For at least ten years that I am aware of (Google this) various Divers theme specific elements were caught in the oceanic currents and washed up on beaches of Europe, the UK, and the USA. Imagine the irony. Scuba gear, life rafts, and the like... showing up in the surf at various beaches. I am not making this up. Life.... uh... finds a way.

By in Australia,

Strangely, my life has crossed with several others who scoured Charlestown beach in Cornwall for Lego. I'd just entered my dark ages, and I don't think I ever got round to removing the oil from the assorted flippers, life vests and seaweed. The ones that got away.

By in Netherlands,

I had the larger set of this theme with the whale skeleton.

This theme had great ships, and underwater builds.

@Rimefang I saw a story about that a little while ago. They weren't all Divers elements (some Pirates and Fright Knights) but just from seeing the picture at the top of the article (https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-28367198) it was easy to tell that that the accident happened in 1997.
