Today's random set is 5919 The Valley of the Kings, released in 1998. It's one of 21 Adventurers sets produced that year. It contains 164 pieces and 3 minifigs, and its retail price was US$20.
It's owned by 736 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

One of those dudes is more dangerous than the other.
I feel like, this was one of those limited releases, because I don't remember this in Australia at all.
Aw, man, I would've LOVED a set like this as a kid! Too bad it was just before my time...

@Zordboy: apparently I own one of these so it was released on Australia. Or I possibly had 3722, the one with the sarcophagus canister (and threw that away?)

I liked some of the sets in this series. Not this one though.
The backgrounds of older (and sometimes even newer) LEGO sets are often lovely little pieces of art, but this one is not one of those cases.
I liked this set as a kid but my god it was hard getting it to stay together. It is exactly as fragile as it looks

of course you get 3 minifigs and 6 animals plus rather large pieces in a $20 dollar set.
and a grain of salt.
It's not good looking but it has a lof of play value + the theme always gets retrofever
I got this with the sarcophagus cannister; it was a fun set!
It was a great series, only some of the colors used seem weirdly "colorful" today. The one that came after it, which was basically a rehash, "Pharo's Quest" improved on many of the sets.
I really like 5958 "Mummy's tomb", great play value and nice base plate.
I don’t care if the rest of the set sucks, Johnny Thunder is in it and he’s beautiful.
Oh hey, I had this one! Got it for my birthday a few years after its release when it, surprisingly, popped up in the local toyshop after Adventurers sets were otherwise no longer around. It was simple, sure, but I got hours of fun from it. But admittedly, I didn't have any of the larger adventurers sets, so I had no point of comparison at the time.
That giant plastic mummy storage container was... pretty wild though, I admit! I was still in my 'all things Ancient Egypt are cool' phase, so I kept it around, but I never... knew what to actually DO with the thing.
And I do agree that the parts from the little snake building at the back there could have been put to better use. I don't think it really served any purpose, other than decoration... that, and when the pin was pulled out, the snake slid down a tiny chute and out the hole at the bottom.

If anything, it was a neat parts pack.
I don't have this particular Egypt Adventures set, but I love the printed pieces that came in many sets in that wave, including this one. And 9 years after the Caribbean Clipper the yellow parrot makes its second and final appearance. On top of that, not one but two rare these rare birds in one set!

I never left that phase... Though I never bought or wished for these sets. With a strong interest in ancient Egypt, these sets did not impress. But I must admit they contain some really nice bricks, that I now will try to get my fingers into, in an attempt to build "something Egyptian".
Anyone ever decipher what the two cartouches represent?
