Review: 75895 1974 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0

Certain vehicles have periodically only appeared in larger Speed Champions packs, disappointing many people. 75895 1974 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0 is accordingly interesting as this famous car was introduced with 75888 Porsche 911 RSR and 911 Turbo 3.0, albeit featuring lime green.
This model seems very realistic when compared with the original vehicle, replicating its distinctive profile and pronounced spoiler. Moreover, the white colour scheme is effective so I have been looking forward to adding this set to my Speed Champions collection, particularly since I do not own the earlier rendition from 2018.
Minifigures
Speed Champions minifigures frequently feature racing overalls but this driver appears more casual, wearing a reddish brown jacket with a metallic silver zip. However, the attractive Porsche emblem on the shirt underneath is definitely my favourite aspect of this minifigure and I can envisage reusing the torso elsewhere.
The black helmet lacks any decoration which is unfortunate, although that corresponds with the plain legs and I like this character's smiling head. An alternative dark brown hair component is provided to replace the helmet and three orange cones are also included.
The Completed Model
Older vehicles are reasonably prominent within the Speed Champions range and the lime green 1974 Porsche 911 Turbo found in 75888 Porsche 911 RSR and 911 Turbo 3.0 has been particularly popular. This white variant measures 15cm in length and employs almost exactly the same building techniques as the last model, distinguished only by 2x2 round bricks with Technic holes between the wheels.
Each generation of the Porsche 911 features smooth curves and they are undoubtedly apparent here, especially between the windscreen and the spoiler. I like the white colour scheme and the contrasting black stripes that decorate either side appear quite attractive. They resemble stickers but are actually formed using tiles which slot beneath some curved slopes.
Stickers are positioned across the front of the vehicle though, depicting its orange indicator lights and the Porsche crest. The transition between the bonnet and the front of the car seems slightly awkward but both round headlights look marvellous, making excellent use of Technic cross block parts which have not been produced in white before. I am equally pleased with the wheel arches but black alloys might have improved the wheels.
Criticism has sometimes been leveled at Speed Champions models because their windscreens, which are generally four studs wide, seem too narrow against the bodywork underneath. That issue has been avoided here as curved slopes are fixed to each flank, softening the transition between the chassis and the windscreen quite nicely.
The interior appears sparsely decorated, only including a steering wheel and ample room for the driver. However, its colour scheme is consistent when compared with earlier Speed Champions cars and that seems notably important here as any bright colours would definitely stand out against the surrounding white bodywork, even when positioned inside.
Adjoining stickers form the rear windscreen and another sticker is applied below the spoiler, featuring the Porsche marque. These are clear-backed so differ from the original design. Perhaps that decision was taken so you could build this vehicle with alternative colours but use the same stickers. The large spoiler looks superb in relation to the source material and I love the authentic red stripe too.
Overall
75895 1974 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0 is an impressive set. This model looks remarkably accurate to the original vehicle, capturing such distinguishing details as its curved bodywork, large spoiler and circular headlights. I love the predominant white colour scheme with black highlights and this unique minifigure is similarly appealing, surpassing many other Speed Champions figures in that respect.
However, producing something completely new would have been preferable as myriad other vehicles have yet to appear across the Speed Champions range. Nevertheless, I am pleased with this set and the price of £12.99 or $14.99 seems reasonable so I would recommend it to those who elected to overlook 75888 Porsche 911 RSR and 911 Turbo 3.0.

The stickers printed on clear background are a god send! I’ve made loads of colour swap MOCs of the lime green 75888 and cutting out the background colour from the 75888 stickers was a royal pain in the butt!
This is a great model BTW I got it from Argos a week before it was on shop @home.... thought that was weird.
Got this and loved it. But then put the rear stickers on upside down! :o( Still kind of ok tho. Strike a light!!!!! Wot a mistaka to maker !
It might seem lazy to some, but I think this is a great opportunity for people who missed out on the original two-pack because it was too expensive for them. This is also one of the most iconic 911 designs of all time, so is worth releasing again. But I prefer the green 930, so will be passing on this set.
I think it’s worth mentioning that this is a product tie-in with Forza Horizon 4 for Xbox One. Fans of that game will already know about the fantastic Lego Speed Champions expansion that came out a few weeks ago. That’s probably the reason Lego has chosen to remake this car in its own set.
"orange headlights" Those are the indicators.
"the authentic red stripe" That would be the taillights. Shame these aren't clear red.
But otherwise it's a great model despite not being a fan of the white colour, I think orange would've been better to go besides the green one.
Hopefully a step in the right direction of not putting all the appealing older cars in double packs.
I know I'd be buying a lot more Speed Champions if that weren't the case.
Yeah, if this signals the possibility of getting a few non-contemorary cars in the single packs, I'm happy. IIRC, this is only the second one after the green Mustang last year, right?
And for now, it's not a trend, so it won't stop me buying the multipacks for the classic cars. No rerelease is guaranteed at this point.
I bought the pack with the lime-green version, last year, but I still purchased this one as soon as I saw it. I thought it was gorgeous, and really well-designed.
This will likely be my 2nd Speed champions set (1st one being Ferrari F40), I do like the single-sold cars.
Those designs work for City nowadays as well as this speed champion scale is partly adopted by recent vehicles like the 2019 City Police car set.
Porsche 911 are seen here on the streets as well, just an iconic model for so many years.

Great review thank you. Picked up two of these hoping to color swap the second. I found all the white pieces can be swapped for red on Bricklink. Anyone know of any other colors, besides lime green, that can be done?
The car is nice but that minifig ... could well be my top 3 favourite minifigs of 2019.
I can't say I'm a fan of the theme but Speed Champions is an extension to my fav theme - City. And every time there's new SC sets, I'm sure to check them out. This Porshe won't make it onto my buy list. LEGO is not cheap for me. Till now the classic Mini remains my favourite and if LEGO ever release it as a single-car set, I'd buy it. My first SC set.
Looks like this will be my first Speed Champions set in a while! It's so cool, and I love Porsche! Also, you forgot to mention the traffic cones, but it's not something that we really need
@JRBricks there are red versions, silver versions, yellow, orange, brown, basically you can try and build it in any color you like, if it looks good
Great set, I have bought six so I can do different colours. So far I have built a red one, but more colours are to come.
They really got the look of the 911 down, and I’m glad it’s available in a less expensive set. That being said, I think it looks way too big. I know that Speed Champions cars are 6-wide, but the 911 is a tiny car. 5- or even 4-wide may have been more accurate, and that may have helped with the height, too. It towers over the minifig! But that may have been hard to do accurately, so I at least appreciate the accurate design.
Great set even though I already have the Lime Green version; they'll look nice parked beside each other in my city. The torso piece is awesome, and it's definitely going on Joey from the Friends Ideas set (the episode where he pretended to own the Porsche - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDIN4ztqkvc ) Good stuff :)
What is going on with those rims sticking out beyond the tyres?
And I don't like the curved slopes on the side. I still think the curved-top bricks in the original Porsches was a better representation of the shape.
As for the windscreens, the problem I have with them are the fixed vertical sides. On a lot of these models I'd like to see them stick out further then taper down to 4 studs wide at the top.
That said, the Porsche is one car that does suit the 6-wide / 4-wide design style rather well. It's other supercars that need to be wider to look like they're the same scale.
I like the transparent stickers. There are many sets with white stickers on white bricks, but sticker white is much brighter than the somewhat creamy brick white. This looks much better.
As soon as I had built the lime version I wanted to build one in white, only to discover to my great surprise that 20 years after its introduction, the Technic connector did not yet exist in white.
@JRBricks the critical parts are the wheel arches and the Technic connectors for the headlights. Not many colours cover both those parts.

Because or relatively low prices and good playability, Speed Champions sets became my preferred gift for a nephew.
Unfortunately this set came for me with an old annoying problem: 3 types of colors for the same White color on the front hood.
It seems nobody cares, so......Everything is AWESOME!!!
I have 75888 but will definitely be grabbing this. Hopefully the torso won't cost too much on Bricklink as I have plans for a Porsche Centre in my Town. A few extra of those jackets on shelves I think would look great as merchandise.

^ ^ summicron, just buy the mini set already! :D It's a really cute set. You won't regret it. This porsche is really neat. Am with some of the folks here, the speed champions line is a really cool line to get but I didn't get any until the mini morris one. Will pick this one up too. It works well with City theme. :D
I have built it and love it. It was a day one purchase. Only cons, which are more linked to the existing parts than design issues : the flat transition between front headlights and windscreen, which should continue the curved profile, made with a 1x3 tile, which is nonetheless and probably the best option regarding Lego elements available to date. We miss a 1x1 modified tile with "dome shape on top" which already exists I think but would prove to high to fit there. Second, the stickers used for rear windscreen. Do you have to place them as close as possible so that there is no gap at all between them, recreating then a plain and one piece windscreen, or just stick them as Cap'n did, then letting a white line between, which looks inappropriate? I chose the first, had to try twice before doing it right. For the rest, this set is one of the best among the theme.
Edit :Dear Felix, agree with you, also noticed different shades of white color between the parts. Not the first time, not the last I guess. And not only for this color.
I've been getting 2 or 3 speed champ sets a year since the range launched and this is easily my favourite so far. It really does look very similar to the real car. Absolute bargain for £13.
We need more solo oldschool sports cars like this.
