Random set of the day: Fire Station

Today's random set is 374 Fire Station, released in 1978. It's one of 34 Town sets produced that year. It contains 349 pieces and 4 minifigs.
It's owned by 592 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Huwbot is on fire today with another grand set. For how old it is the building is actually pretty good looking. I wish I could say the same for the vehicles...
Sure, the fire engines look a little outdated, but look at that building.
That magical period when Lego buildings actually had floors and rooves as a standard feature and not a rare bonus.
After looking through the instructions, wow, what an interesting set! The thing only has 27 steps in total! While maybe a bit bare when it comes to an interior for the building, it is a complete building rather than a facade, those vehicles are marvelous, and the overall product is oozing with personality.
I’ve always been confused as to why there’s grass inside the buildings.
It’s 6 past 10.
For me, as iconic as yellow castle. This set was such a good toy and offered so many play possibilities at the time!

Oh my goodness it has the rare and elusive gray air tanks. I had one of those from a Clsssic Space set. I think it was Beta-1 Command Base.

I think I got this when I was around sixth years old, in 1980. Still have it , except the fire engines. I managed to replicate the larger one, but replaced the smaller one (had to) with the fire SUV from 6643. I'm very fond of it because it is the oldest toy from my childhood. Of course the station is missing the stickers and some pieces here and there, but to me, it still is as beautiful as the day I got it.
That building looks amazing. So much detail with a clock, windows, floors, a spare ladder.
I really liked the yellow - red combo within the fire theme, glad to see it make a small comeback this year.
The USA release has a red building.
^ did it have yellow trucks, white suited firemen and a magenta base plate though?

A great set from the past, have it and love it. I'll actually rebuild it one day and have it on display. 2nd favourite fire station next to 6382.

I had asked for this for Christmas when i was about 6 or 7. On Christmas Eve the excitement got the better of me and I woke my little sister up and we crept downstairs. I peeped around the door and saw 374 sticking out the top of my pillow case. I remember it so clearly, in fact it feels like my earliest Christmas memory. We didn't go in the room and crept back up stairs but my mum heard us, it didn't matter I was so happy. I'm still looking for a nice used boxed one to relive those moments!
I didn't realize our version of the set (590) was so much different. Yellow ladders, red station, American flag (as opposed to LEGO flag), white windows and doors. This is one of the few I've seen that simply isn't just a different number.
I really like this set; it's been on my wish list for quite some time. The rigs themselves look pretty good; and period correct for the 1970s. An open cab ladder truck; as well as what appears to be a WWII-surplus Jeep and Bantam trailer. For brush use, they were utilized quite heavily.
What a grand set! When it came out, I was only 9 years old and could only afford the single vehicle + minifig sets. This would have been way outside of my pocket money budget! It's a beauty.
As far as I can remember this is the very first Lego set I ever got from my parents. I loved the tree and the fire truck! Later on I tried to build a castle from it, but I never got the yellow holy grail of the Lego castle series... I think, I've got most of the parts (minus a few yellow bricks I gnawed through - in a bin in the back of my parents cellar.
What a great set this was and so many happy memories. I was another one lucky enough to get this set as an xmas present when I was 5.
What remains of this is still at my mum and dads house. My nephew plays with it together with all his new LEGO.
