Random set of the day: Adventurers Tomb

Today's random set is 2996 Adventurers Tomb, released in 1998. It's one of 21 Adventurers sets produced that year. It contains 81 pieces and 2 minifigs, and its retail price was US$8.
It's owned by 548 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Great parts and figures for such a tiny set.
Being limited to US only Shop at Home was not so nice however.
Overall multiple sets of the theme were limited releases :(
I got 2 sets back then, Johnny Thunder with a backpack, and Johnny Thunder's car, but even those small sets had a good mix of accesoires and scorpions at the time, pistols, rifle, tools, backpack, binoculars, dynamite, magnifying glass, printed map etc.
Yeah, I never even saw this in Australia.
I love the idea that the mummy isn't just an undead abomination, but going by the picture, he's going to throw rattlesnakes at you, for kicks.
Is there a good guy in this? Or is this just a villain pack? Or am I missing something?
Wake me up when Johnny Thunder comes on the scene.
@The Teenage Brickster: You sure about that? I count at least 3 non-duplicate sets without him. One with just Dr. Kilroy, one with Kilroy, Harry Cane and the two bad guys, and one with just Sam Sinister.
@Your future president: Adventurers is no stranger to villain packs. See above. Also 7409-1 from Orient Expedition, though interestingly that set is non-canon and probably exists only to fill in the "smallest set" slot for the Mt. Everest branch (yet no such set exists for the China branch...).
This set appeared in LEGO.com catalogs as a kit with 2995-1 and 5900-1 called "The Lost Tomb". The only time it appeared by itself in a catalog was when it was on clearance.
Among "canon" sets and excluding "The Lost Tomb" component sets, 5928-1 and 5948-1 lack Johnny Thunder.
@LegoSonicBoy I'd consider that 7409-1 fills the same slot as 7410-1 in India and 7420-1 in China.
As for villain packs, 7416-1 is a great example from Orient Expedition. See also 5955-1 from Dino Island.
This is indeed a fun set with great parts! Awesome Mummy, printed brick with Egyptian symbols, and black doors!!
This is actually the ONLY set where the printed warning tile is CORRECTLY used. None of any other sets with the same warning tile have a pair of doors and the terrifying mummy behind it.
Such a cool small set! Wish LEGO released something similar to an Adventurers reboot!
Interesting to see they show the scorpion element with a solid stud, unlike the actual piece that comes in sets.

Pieces are more interesting than the set I thinks...
Pity this set wasn't available over here. Pieces look very interesting indeed.
I like that this has the two characters who only ever showed up in the Desert wave in a single set. I would have liked to pick this one up - I never did get my hands on a Pharaoh Hotep minifigure (the mummy) - but, like others have said, I didn't even know it existed until some years later.
^ I never got any of the sets from this wave, but did get Pharaoh Hotep which I still have in my display collection. Must have been on the secondary market around 20 years ago. Don’t remember Hotep being particularly expensive.
