Review: 76123 Captain America: Outriders Attack

Motorcycles have become a recurring feature of the Marvel Super Heroes theme, originating with 6865 Captain America's Avenging Cycle that was launched in 2012. It therefore seems appropriate that Captain America should return with another motorcycle in 76123 Captain America: Outriders Attack from Avengers: Endgame!
This set contains an exclusive Captain America minifigure, featuring a new helmet element, along with three marauding Outriders. Its price of £19.99 or $19.99 therefore appears fairly reasonable, although the motorcycle seems slightly bland in official images. Hopefully that aspect of the set might exceed my expectations.

Minifigures
Several different Captain America minifigures have been produced since 2012 and the latest version certainly represents the most significant update. The dark blue helmet is now formed using a separate component which features wing emblems on either side and a distinctive 'A' on the front. This element resembles that found on Ultron minifigures but is actually unique and I think it looks fantastic.
Unfortunately, the head underneath is less impressive. LEGO has repeatedly struggled when printing flesh tones against dark colours and this example is particularly egregious. I do like these determined and smiling expressions but this aspect of the printing process requires urgent improvement. I should also mention that official images show a more realistic skin tone which is deeply frustrating.
Nevertheless, the white armoured suit is exceptionally detailed and appears accurate when compared with the movie, including some red highlights beside the Avengers symbol. Captain America wields his classic shield which now consists of a pearl silver component with printed stripes across the front. This flamethrower can serve as a minifigure accessory but it looks better when connected to the motorcycle in my opinion.
Army building minifigures have appeared in several Marvel Super Heroes sets and the Outriders are certainly my favourite. This set contains three such creatures which feels quite generous and they look superb, wearing metallic gold armour on their head and chest. The textured detail is similarly appealing but does not continue onto the legs.
Two minifigures include additional arms on their back and they are tipped with golden claws. The third features pearl dark grey shoulder armour that is only available in three other sets and pearl gold claws are fitted to its hands. Both variants look intimidating and appear faithful to their onscreen counterparts, despite the traditional proportions of a minifigure being very different to those of the Outriders.
The Completed Model
Captain America appeared with a motorcycle in 6865 Captain America's Avenging Cycle but his new vehicle is considerably bigger and more detailed, measuring 14cm in length without the flamethrower elements. The dark blue colour scheme corresponds with its rider and three stickers further represent the connection between this motorcycle and Captain America, as well as the Avengers.
The model is simply constructed around a Technic frame so it feels exceptionally sturdy and there is substantial ground clearance, allowing the motorcycle to lean sideways which is brilliant for play. The beefy tyres are excellent, although one side is hollow so appears slightly odd. I also think the Technic structure could be concealed more effectively.
Red pieces are visible towards the rear and they activate twin disc launchers. These weapons function perfectly and create an unusual profile but they overwhelm the motorcycle to some degree. I prefer the flamethrowers which are situated beside the front wheel and some trans-orange Power Burst elements are provided to represent shooting flames. Both weapons can rotate or detach to serve as accessories, as demonstrated above.
There is adequate space for Captain America to sit behind the handlebars and ride into battle, placing his shield on a clip above the rear wheel. I like how a black bullbar element has been integrated with a headlight in front of the driver and the stickers on either flank look marvellous, featuring the same wing emblems that appear on Captain America's new helmet.
Pearl dark grey exhausts are fitted around the rear tyre, emitting enormous flames which seems quite dangerous! They look fantastic but obstruct access to the disc launcher triggers, unfortunately. That is no longer a problem once the flame have been removed though. The model also incorporates a basic kickstand so it can be displayed easily.
Overall
76123 Captain America: Outriders Attack contains an exclusive Captain America minifigure and that alone might be enough to entice some Marvel Super Heroes fans. His new helmet definitely appears faithful to the source material and I love the updated shield as well. However, the head design is very disappointing so I hope LEGO will resolve these printing difficulties soon.
There are no such issues with the Outriders though and Captain America's motorcycle is reasonable, featuring a couple of interesting functions and some attractive details. Nevertheless, vehicles like this one are extremely common and I would therefore only recommend the set to those who are particular fans of Captain America as others, such as 76125 Iron Man Hall of Armour, are more exciting.

Personally I just think that cap figure is sad. Not only the bad flesh printing, but the helmet makes him look...
I don’t know. Just not like captain America. It’s nice there are so many outriders though. And I actually kinda like the bike.
And of course excellent review as always.
I have this set and like it but think it's a shame it doesn't include cap's chainmail-like armour

I can't believe that this is the entry level Endgame set. Comparing it to the entry level set from Infinity War
- This is £20, compared to £12. That's too much for the cheapest set in a range.
- Both have four figures, but this only has one hero figure (with non-unique parts from the neck down) vs 2 unique hero figures. Amd the 3 baddies here are essentially the same as the 2 baddies in that cheaper set.
-The build. The IW set was a scaled down version of the massive dropships seen in the background. Certainly non-essential, but a nice compromise way to release a version of something that was present in the film. I don't think anyone is sad that they can't buy a £100+ version of the dropships that is slightly less out of scale. I won't say what role this bike has in Endgame, if any.
- The helmet piece for Cap is nice, but ouch, that printing. I almost wish the helmet extended further, so you could just put a normal coloured head under there.
So yeah, a poor showing. The figures are worse than the IW set, it's 66% more expensive than that set, and if you bought multiples of that set for the Outriders, the build would populate the background of a Battle of Wakanda scene nicely.

I saw the movie but can't recall seeing this bike?
^kraken, me neither. Maybe Lego saw another film or a scene was cut.
Either way I am more a fan of the Iron Man Hall of Armour set than this one. This for me is aiming at a young audience.
Well to be honest, none of sets Lego launched for this movie have any significant connection with movie. Lego really dropped a ball with this one.

I thought this set was a waste of time, but bricklinking Cap, his shield, and an Outrider w s/h ended up costing 2/3 the set's price, so in retrospect, I kind of wish I'd gone for the set itself, even with the goofy motorcycle. There's something to be said about value for dollar. (This is not a knock against the seller, fyi, just the nature of minifig collecting!)
The motorcycle itself looks ok but it does look weird when a minifig sits on it like he sits on a chair.
I like this set, before you get mad at me, let me explain. The Outriders are ok, but they are nice for army building. The motorcycle is out of scale, but, if the Captain America minifig is not on it, it looks like a Creator Motorcycle, and if it was a set, I would buy it! The worst part of this set stands out for sure, the Cap minifig, the face is that off ghost flesh color that we have been getting for a while and I really hope that LEGO fixes this printing problem in the future. But on the other hand, the new cap helmet is what makes me want to get this set, even more, I am just so happy that they made a brand new Cap helmet and it overall just looks better. Sorry that I ended writing a book, but I wanted to share my thoughts.
Looks like LEGO did a good thing to make the sets spoiler-free. If you've seen the movie you know what I mean.
Robot America
I love that new silver shield, very cool. The face, well, maybe he's not been getting enough sunlight?
I was super disappointed to open this set and see that horrible printing on Cap's head. Came to check out this review to see if that was normal. What a bummer. Why aren't they just printing on flesh heads so everything comes out fine? Seems too obvious a solution.
As for the set itself, we are loving it! Cap's new helmet piece is a must, looks so much better than previous versions where it's just printed on the head piece. Adding 3 more outriders is cool, army is growing. The playability of this set is great. My kids have been setting up the outriders and blasting them with the disc shooter over and over and over, that function works great!
