Talk about original. Can’t get much more original than a large tub o’ bricks.

30 bucks for a thousand parts? Granted their all/mostly just basic bricks but that's still pretty cool.

A thousand parts, 30 quid (guessing it was $30 here in the States). Definitely extremely great value for the money!

Was this a store exclusive somewhere? Like at K-Mart or Toys R Us?

@TransNeonOrangeSpaceman agree. I really think "Classic" is underrated. You get some nice colours and most times they work perfect as parts pack.... but somehow people just look further without any consideration.

Actually I tried building with one of the "Building bigger thinking" (classic) sets. I just let out all of my ideas, it's like the colours just made come up with crazy ideas.

If this tube would be sold right now as a 2019 year I'd definitely buy. Great value and great amount of useful pieces

The modern-day LEGO Classic has way too many colors and part types resulting in too few of a kind, which to be fair is not a problem for those who don't mind color-uncoordinated large builds, or those who build small anyway.

These older Creator sets (before "Creator" was repurposed into 3-in-1 and Expert) had way too little parts variety, but at least in the 2000s they started adding colors other than red, yellow, blue, white and black. And the sets with Max and Tina had more parts variety.

FreeStyle was possibly one of the most balanced free-building themes in terms of parts variety, even featuring generic but not completely bland minifigs, but that was before the LEGO palette really exploded and we had all those then-controversial color changes (greys and brown). Designer Sets were excellent too, with the color variety and minus the minifigs.

LEGO should make more sets like this.

Doesn't get much more "random" than a set with 1000 random parts for building. Nice job, Huwbot!

Honestly, I'm surprised we haven't had one of these come up as Random Set before now. They're not really my type of thing, but they're such a pure, classic form of Lego...

Did most people's Lego hobby start out with a set something like this when they were a kid? I feel like it must have; mine certainly did. Though granted, this is a much more modern version than 4146, the set that started my own collection.

^ Ooh, a fellow FreeStyler! My first (actually, only) FreeStyle set was 4162. It wasn't my first LEGO set though, that would be Pirates 6254 and the Rock Raiders theme.

Can we think for a sec about how disparate the printed bricks' artstyles are from one another? If there's something I'm thankful for in 2010s LEGO, it's the consistent design of the prints, making it so that combining printed parts and minifigs from different themes becomes less jarring while still keeping their individuality.
