Insectoids has got to be my favorite Space theme, a shame I don't have this one! (Probably wouldn't fit on the shelf with the others though.)

Wow, my thoughts are exact opposite of the first comment. This theme and the UFO, not a fan...

By in Russian Federation,

My thoughts are inbetween. I think it's ok, but "everything is a bug" is a dull design theme and color scheme is pretty annoying. UFO I love just for saucers and cool heads.

I remember getting 2 UFO pieces in exchange for the green fire piece — deal of the century!

UFO, I really loved, but I was on the fence about the Insectoid sets. I never bought many of them, that I remember.

much as I loved this set, it always bugged me that an arachnid themed base only had six legs (those things at the front seem to be pedipalps or chelicerae rather than legs)

I love this set! I bought it for £5 a couple of years ago and it is proudly displayed on my shelf (I also made an Insectoids stop-motion to celebrate)

I know lots of people dislike Insectoids for the many big specialized parts, and while I can kind of see that... I'm always gonna have a soft spot for this theme. I really like the aesthetic that Lego was aiming for with them, even if the reality didn't quite hit the mark all the time.

Does anyone know, by the way, where one might find the old Insectoid character bios that used to be on Lego.com? I haven't been able to find evidence of them anywhere, but I'm certain that they existed at the time.

Insectoids all the way! No disrespect to the other space themes, but this and Life on Mars were the themes that were around when I was a kid. And a friend gave me a big Insectoids set in 2004 of all years that wasn't even opened. I love the big wheels and legs and that light and sound box. And I love the colors. Blue, Black, and Gray are my favorite colors. I imagine everyone has that one theme they loved that nobody else seemed to when they were growing up. Someone has to love the Ben10s and the AquaRaiders and the Fabulands, right?

Following UFO and Robo as a child I thought these sets were awful and blocking looking for bug like creatures.

As an adult I feel the same way. However it probably lead to the bugs from the last Space theme so I'm glad for that.

Did I hear some shade thrown towards Fabuland?

Must have been the wind. Because I know I didn't hear that.

OMG Fabuland was the best! As for this Robo-Roach, glad I was in my Dark Ages.

Has Huwbot featured a Fabuland set, yet? I don't think he has.

Remember guys, this was still one of the better sets of 1998. Possibly the most juniorization that year. This set is kind of juniorized too, but not as much as, say, Town J.R.
