Review: 76133 Spider-Man Car Chase

76133 Spider-Man Car Chase is the smallest of the new Spider-Man sets and forms part of the 4+ range. This set would not typically appeal to me, although it comes with an exclusive Green Goblin minifigure which certainly captured my attention.
Spider-Man's buggy, on the other hand, seems rather bland in my opinion. That is not entirely surprising given the target audience for this set, although something more creative would certainly have been welcome. Nevertheless, I have been looking forward to adding another Green Goblin minifigure to my collection and hope the remainder of the set will offer reasonable play value.
Minifigures
The five new Marvel Super Heroes sets all contain an updated Spider-Man minifigure, although those from the 4+ subtheme do not include dual-moulded legs. That is slightly disappointing but I believe the figure looks alright in its present form, featuring plain blue legs that match the arms. The web design is particularly attractive.
Both sides of the torso are decorated with spider emblems. These do not take direct inspiration from any particular comic but they look superb and I like the metallic silver highlights around Spider-Man's eyes. The minifigure comes with a long thread of web and a white web component. Unfortunately, the specialised web accessories which appear in the standard sets are not available with these 4+ models.
LEGO has produced several different Green Goblin minifigures, beginning in 2002 with a design from the Spider-Man movie. 10687 Spider-Man Hideout introduced a superb comic book version of Spider-Man's arch nemesis and this minifigure definitely owes certain aspects of its design to the figure from 2015, featuring a lurid purple hat and gloves along with a maniacal grin. The reverse side of the head includes an equally comical bewildered expression!
However, the most distinctive characteristic of the Green Goblin's appearance is his striking lime green skin tone. Past minifigures have typically featured green skin but this brighter shade works quite nicely in my opinion. Furthermore, I love the scaly texture on the villain's vest and the tattered fabric around his neck looks fantastic. The minifigure comes with a sack, a printed banknote and a flaming orange head that represents a pumpkin bomb.
The Completed Model
Green Goblin has appeared in nine different sets since 2002, almost all of which also include a unique rendition of his infamous Goblin Glider. This model only contains ten pieces but it looks good, featuring a clip for storing the sack and adjustable wings. The minifigure is shown standing on the glider in official images but he can also sit down, if you prefer.
Spider-Man's buggy, on the other hand, is less impressive. The vehicle is constructed around a single light bluish grey chassis component which seems inconsistent with the colour scheme of red and blue. However, I do like the black bullbar and the printed piece towards the front of the model. This features an excellent spider symbol and also appears in 76134 Spider-Man: Doc Ock Diamond Heist.
The large tyres are ideal for play and there is plenty of ground clearance beneath the buggy, allowing it to traverse rough terrain. There is room for Spider-Man tp sit behind the steering wheel and two flames are located at the back of the vehicle, forming exhausts. Unfortunately, they are fitted using a yellow 1x2 brick with studs on the side which looks totally out of place, although I imagine it is intended to represent the base of the flames.
Overall
It should come as no surprise that 76133 Spider-Man Car Chase certainly offers more to younger fans of Marvel Super Heroes than adult enthusiasts, although the new Green Goblin minifigure is excellent in my opinion. Not only does the lime green skin tone really stand out but the torso and head are both highly detailed, matching the minifigures from the more advanced Spider-Man sets.
Spider-Man's buggy is dull by comparison, although it is very sturdy so I am certain that young children will enjoy playing with this model. The set costs £8.99 or $9.99 so offers reasonable value in relation to its content, although those who are only interested in the Green Goblin minifigure should certainly wait for a discount.

Of course, the Spider-Man in the set doesn't have the dual molded legs because of course young kids can't appreciate that. :D

Looks good for younger kids, glad to see TLG making an effort there.
Might get it just for the figures, not the best spidey vehicle in the theme, that goes to the crawler followed by the new spider mech..

Sets like these often get discounted to 6.99 Euro over here. At that price I might get it for the parts, especially that printed hood/bonnet element and the figures, though more for the GG than this rendition of Spidey.

Easily worth it for the best-yet Green Goblin mini-fig alone; definitely a cute set for a child.
I prefer the Bridge Battle Goblin, so this is an easy pass for me.
