By in Canada,

Stepdad had this. Loved the little red plow thing. Didn’t like stepdad though...

By in United States,

Until Cyber Slam! came along in 1998, I thought these were the coolest Techinc sets, mainly due to the heavy presence of the Technic maxi-figures. This was the first of LEGO's forays into having an "Arctic" subtheme, though I wasn't alive to participate. Obviously, this set was the highlight, as it came with two figures, one of which had skiing equipment, very exotic gear to a boy growing up in the humid, mostly-flat forests of East Texas. Still an interesting set, but not nearly as desirous, since I had my fill of Technic maxi-figs with Cyber Slam! and other assorted Technic sets as I got older.

^ I was alive and had (still have) this particular set. It was a neat set, but I can see why it didn't survive. I think Technic just wasn't meant to have figs.

By in Netherlands,

I absolutely loved this set. One of my first Technic sets. You could turn the wheel on top to steer. And the coolest thing was that four wheel steered.

Remember it well. One of the few technic sets we had as kids. I wish I still had my childhood LEGO :(

Awesome set. <3 I didn’t have this one particular but remember droodling over it in catalogs. Had and still have some of the others from the same time/era. Brings back good childhood memories. Thanks for sharing!

By in Ireland,

Had this and 8640 Polar Copter. I replaced the wheels with tracks (from my
8851 Excavator)

@Chilis_no "Droodling" = drooling + doodling? That is what I did in catalogs!

By in Norway,

One of my favorite Technic sets - with then-rare white Technic parts and actual play value rather than just sitting on a shelf gathering dust. I really miss the Technic men (why did they stop making these?), a really cool detail was how the heads were interchangeable with the Fabuland ones so you could have action-figure-sized animal characters.

Later I used the wheels and panels to extend my 5580 Highway Rig to a monster pickup with double front and triple rear axles, family-sized sleeping cab and Nasa combined-cycle turbine engine (made from Hubble parts from the Discovery shuttle).

By in France,

This set was so cool in 1986. 4 wheels steering system was a blast for me. Not a lot of functions, but so much fun to create stories for the Technic figures.
I was in love with these Technic figures in 1986. I had all the sets for Christmas at this time, except the large 8680 arctic base. This one, with the pneumatic system was a real dream for me. Now I have 2 of each, so I can display main and second models. And i'm working to create a large vehicle to move the mobile base.
