I loved these sets. I picked up so many of them, and I kinda wish they were still around. The polybags are nice, but these seemed more varied.
I’m curious what others think.
Wicked!
Really liked these sets (well, NOT this particular one that much, but the line!). It was awesome how the 4 sets included extra pieces to build the 9th extra model, the TIE bomber.
Minikit complete!
The best thing about the mini sets (especially Star Wars, IMO) is how they use so few pieces to make something instantly recognizable. I mean, yeah, a lot of LEGO is like that-- obvious once you look at the model or instructions, but hard to do originally.
"Build this specific thing with whatever pieces!" is much much harder than "Build this thing with these certain pieces-- I built that thing with them, so I know it can be done."
Slightly off-topic, but the surround-sound in the cinema for the podracing scene utterly blew my mind... As soon as I saw this set today, Sebulba's throbbing engines flew past my head.
There was talk, a little while back, about potential future UCS models, and Sebulba's podracer was mentioned; I'd buy a UCS version of this set!
I might be the only one, but I thought these two Podracers were some of the least interesting ones partaking in the Boonta Eve in TPM. We should count ourselves lucky we ever got Gasgano (back in 1999/2000), and the Aldar Beedo/Mawhonic/Watto set (plus that one junior bucket), but I really wish TLG had put some more Pods into production, like Teemto Pagalies, Bolos Roor, Ben Quadrinaros, Ebe Endocott, Elan Mak, Clegg Holdfast, Wan sandage, Mars Guo, Ratts Tyrell, Ody Mandrell, etc.
I surmise that the spherical nature of some Pods and their relatively little screen time contributed to this decision, but then again, the B-Wing had hardly any in ROTJ and the V-Wing left no impression in ROTS.
WIZARD!
I never got my hands on these, but I always found them adorable. I especially loved how the videogames used them as the minikits.
I have this one! I bought it on a market some years ago. Sealed and cheap.
But the bad thing is that all the grey 1x1 clips easy got broke. I need to get some new....
Now THIS is podracing!
