Review: Porg

Many aspects of Star Wars: The Last Jedi proved to be very divisive and the porgs were definitely among them. Personally, I rather like these little sea birds so set about building PORG-1 Porg as soon as the instructions became available.
Building animals at a small scale can be difficult but this model looks suitably adorable in official images so I have high expectations for it.
The Completed Model
The porg measures just under 7cm in height when placed on the rock and is immediately recognisable. Its dark bluish grey, white and flame yellowish orange colour scheme looks perfect in relation to the film and the orange variant, shown in an image on the North American LEGO store calendar, looks equally impressive in my opinion. Several rare pieces are used throughout the porg, the most notable of which are the printed 1x1 round tiles that form its eyes. These have only appeared in two previous sets but look brilliant here, matching the source material closely. I am similarly impressed by the shape of the porg's face as the designer has managed to recreate its downturned mouth remarkably effectively using just four pieces!
Turning the model around reveals a series of vertical streaks across its back. These give the impression of a feathered texture which looks superb and I like the tiny tail, represented by a dark bluish grey 1x1 slope. The wings are attached using clips so you can display the porg as though it is about to take off which is great, although it might look even better if the hinges were integrated more closely with the body.
Overall
This is an excellent little model. Not only does it include an appropriate mixture of colours but its shaping is remarkably faithful to the movie and I love the printed eyes. Unfortunately, a couple of the pieces included are fairly rare but I would certainly recommend building the porg if you are able to find them in your collection.

Its just not as cute. Sorry, I'll be sticking to my Funko Pop Porg for now.
What kind of name is PORG-1 for a creature? What a strange name, these aren't supposed to be robotic, are they?

That looks like garbage. Maybe porgs just don’t translate to this scale well, because I think the little brick built ones in the sets look great.

@ra226, PORG-1 is the item number, not the name of the set ;)
@ra226: PORG-1 is the improvised ID number Brickset uses for this set, since in-store builds other than the Monthly Mini Model Builds at LEGO Brand Stores rarely have actual set numbers assigned. I agree it makes the article title a little confusing.
What a cutie though!
I don't have any problem with porgs as their comic relief didn't impact the plot at all. If they'd been making "your mum" gags to distract the first order during bombing runs, that would have been a different matter.

This is horrible! Sure some of the peices are used creativly, but I would never guess that it was A porg unles you told me.
