9679 AT-ST and Endor

9679 AT-ST and EndorAfter the disappointment of the X-wing, is this one any better? Read on to find out...

This set comprises an AT-ST, an AT-ST driver and the forest moon of Endor. It has 65 pieces and like the others costs £9.99 or US$9.99, so it's very expensive for what you get.

9679 AT-ST and EndorThe AT-ST driver is new. It is similar to the only other one that's been made, in 7657 from 2007, but does have a new torso print, and a new reversible head print, too.

9679 AT-ST and EndorThe other side of the head is, I believe, the same as the other version's.

9679 AT-ST and EndorI had feared that the AT-ST was going to be the same as that in the polybag set 30054 that was available last year, but thankfully it is not.

The head is very similar, but the 'flag' piece used for the face of the head is printed with the same print as that found in the first old-grey mini AT-ST 4486 from 2003, I believe. The legs are completely different, though, and are an improvement.

9679 AT-ST and EndorHere's the completed model.

9679 AT-ST and EndorThe printed plate.

This is a half-decent set: The AT-ST is OK, but if you have the polybag version you could convert it to be the same as this one easily enough with a few extra click-hinge plates if you wanted to.

The minifig is OK too, but not spectacular but at least it has new a torso and head.

So to summarise the reviews of the three new Planet sets:

- The Cloud City/Lobot one is an essential purchase.
- Skip the X-wing.
- If you can get this one cheaply, do so.

I really love this set! Definitely the best actual planet.

I shall probably get this one.

By in Netherlands,

There is a slightly difference with the other versions of the at-st pilot at the glasses side. You can see it next to the mouth.

This looks pretty good, I will definitely be picking it up.

Are these in shops yet? thanks

By in United States,

I'm for sure getting Cloud City and Endor, but I'm on the fence for Yavin 4.

I'd like to see Hoth, Utapau, Kashyyyk, Mustafar, Geonosis, Kamino or Felucia in the next wave.

Of the Series 2 Planet sets, 9679 looks the best, lovely detailing on the planet and a definite improvement from the 30054 AT-ST and the 7657 AT-ST pilot.

By in Belgium,

expensive? I dont know...
At bricklink the cheapest 30054 in Europe is around 6 US$ ; the cheapest (new) AT-ST driver 6.5US$.
Even not taking into account the postage you pass already the price of a new planet set... with which, as a bonus, you also get the planet and the display stand..

It might sound expensive when you live in a country where you get those mini's for free.. but in most parts of the world you have to pay for your Lego.. Welcome to our world.

mmm (of topic) why does brickset locate me in the US, while actualy I am located in europe???

Felucia would be a cool planet, it would probably have an AT-TE or AT-OT so that would be great.

^ yes Tilius I am very well aware of that... I am not in the US but in Europe (dont know why brickset locates me in the US)... and our prices are even higher than yours... an average of 15%. Each time I am in the UK I try to do some Lego shopping too, because even normal UK retail prices are a sale for me..

I would probably get all these sets, since the only criticism seems to be "they've been released before." I missed out on the original mini sets back in 03, and I don't have easy access to all the Star Wars polybags and I don't have a large supply of Star Wars minifigs... so I see no reason not to get them all anyway. :P

But thanks for the detailed pictures! It was awesome to get a look at them!

I'm seeing "Corellian Engineering in Iceland". Is that correct? Location is determined from IP address and the GeoIP database so if it isn't the problem lies with it. I can import the latest version to see if that solves it if not.

And I guess when you put it like "At bricklink the cheapest 30054 in Europe is around 6 US$ ; the cheapest (new) AT-ST driver 6.5US$." it does make it seem better value, although the price of this particular AT-ST driver will be a bit less than that I suspect in a few months. Still, compared to the Cloud Car in which you get an excellenet fig and useful parts in a great colour it's not so good.

Got to get this one

I'd get the Yavin 4 one, as I never got the X-wing, and I'm starting to be very fond of the minis. Sadly, can't be in my budget yet... maybe a sale next year will allow me to get a few.

Considering AOTC is being re-released in Feb., I'd expect Series 3 to have Coruscant, Geonosis, and Kamino.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ The possibilities! We could finally get a Kamino-ian!

Gravatar
By in United States,

If those planets were to be in Series 3, I would pair the planets with:

Coruscant- Zam Wessel and a car
Geonosis- Geonosian Starfighter and Ki-Adi-Mundi
Kamino- Jango Fett and Slave I

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ Yeah, you're probably right.

By in United States,

^^ I'd put Kamino with a Kaminoan and. . . . . . . . . .ya know, someone else can think of the mini model. Also, I don't mean to be a hater Huw, trying to make this sound as nice as possible, but I'll skip your opinions. I collect the planet sets, all Series 1 in my possession and soon will be the same with Series 2, when they are available in this country. I will not order them off the internet from over there in Europe 'cause they'll have that crappy box without the piece count

By in United States,

^It definetly would be better with a Kaminoan, but what ship could work with it?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

@ LEGOlover9531,

It seems that each planet wave comes with two generic minifigs and one character minifig... to get both Zam and Jango in one wave, as nice as that sounds, is rather unlikely, wouldn't you say?

I would like to see an AT-ST set at around £24.99 in the near future as although the one in the Battle of Endor set is good, I am sure they could do better and the AT-ST is a great vehicle.

@billybobjoe - You could have a mini landscape (not minifigure scale), that would be cool for planets like Coruscant, Kamino and Mustafar. Alternatively if you really needed a vehicle for Kamino, perhaps a brick built Aiwha?
