Review: 41600 Aquaman

BrickHeadz, you either love 'em or loathe 'em, it seems. Nevertheless, it would appear that they have been something of a success, if the fact that there are at least 30 being released this year is anything to go by.
Thankfully, I don't feel the need to buy every single one but instead just pick up those that particularly appeal to me. 41600 Aquaman was one such figure.
Construction
Every BrickHeadz is built in much the same way, which I explained in great detail in my anatomy of a BrickHeadz article a while ago. So, there's no more to say about building this one.
The completed model
The model portrays the wonderful Jason Momoa's version of the character from last year's Justice League film who, if I remember correctly, was woefully underused in it.
His belt buckle and scales on his swimsuit (?) have been reproduced faithfully on what little there is of his torso, and he's armed with a trident which was first wielded by the minifigure version of the character in last year's 76085 Battle of Atlantis.
The mustache and beard look great, made possible by the new 1/4 circle tiles.
What sets this one, and indeed all good BrickHeadz, apart from mediocre ones, is its hair. Aquaman's flowing locks tumble across his shoulders and down his back and look splendid.
This year's BrickHeadz are mounted on a 6x6 base rather than a 6x4 which makes them far less prone to toppling backwards.
Verdict
This is a faithful reproduction of the character it portrays and is my favourite of this year's Justice League BrickHeadz. It's all down to the hair. Flat headed ones like 41598 The Flash do nothing for me, because without it the eyes look too close to the side of the head.
Do I love or loathe 'em? I think LEGO is perhaps going a bit overboard by producing so many and that some characters are better suited to the BrickHeadz treatment than others, but the best of them, such as this one, are great.
Whatever we may think of them, I suspect they'll be a staple of LEGO's product range for many years to come...

Still not onboard with brickheadz but I will admit they have good mixtures of parts and unique pieces included which make these very tempting just for parts. In this one those scale design plates are very interesting.
I hope Brickheadz makes it to 2021, I'd bet they'd do BIONICLE based ones for the constraction figure line's 20th anniversary, it seems like a franchise centered on mask design and a franchise based on head design would go hand-in-hand to me.
Love them or loathe them? Well, I loathe the fact that LEGO made the Boba Fett & carbonite Han set available only to a few people who were lucky enough to buy one at a comic convention.
You know, the gold is a surprisingly good substitute for the old orange color scheme he had going on.
I really still dislike (for hate would be too strong a word - how can I hate LEGO?) BrickHeadz as a theme, but I must admit I like one thing about them: just like my beloved Mixels before, BrickHeadz are often very heavily discounted, so you can get them for between five and seven Euros. This makes them at least excellent parts packs, which is what I am getting some of them for. I even built the Jack Sparrow one, if only to be able to sensibly take part in discussions about their building techniques.
Glad Lego had the common sense to equip Aquaman with a trident with 3 prongs, rather than the 5 prong monstrosity from the film.

Just got this... today... I love Brickheadz and have so far got all of them, with my usual caveat of that are reasonably and economically available (not Comic con etc) I am also thrilled to see just words in Bricksets Inventory Anna, Elsa, Yoda, Chewbacca its infinite this series. Keep going Lego. And Brick Me what can I say. Ive already made 3/5 of my family in Brickheadz form.....brilliant.

I don't loathe them, but I do count myself firmly in the camp of those who genuinely can't understand their appeal. I remember when the very first ones were released a couple of years ago and thinking "Meh, they'll tank and completely disappear in a matter of months". Shows what I know!
This is my second favorite of the Justice League Brickheadz.
I just built my first Brickhead (Joker) I still don't see the appeal to these, but there are some great pieces for 70% off. The ones with crazy hair (like Joker and Aquaman) are my favorite.
He looks good and I may get one if Palpatine releases or the upcoming My Brickheads package instead.
I have always disliked the brickheads, they've never looked interesting to me, but the Flash from this line looks kinda cute.
The high discounts say something about their success, i'd think
Just because Lego releases 30 of these things doesn't mean they are a success. It just means, that there are 30 of these things released. They aren't even decent parts bags.
I'd say a lot of their success is down to the price point they have hit. Smaller lego sets are quite often out of reach of children's pocket money these days, however with brickheadz most parents would be fine with £5-10 as a unplanned spend whilst out shopping.
The more I look the more I think why is the forehead so rectangular we know they have the pieces (moustache) im going to make mine had a rounded forehead. Its only 3 extra pieces.
