Review: 41487 Lloyd

It has been a little less than a month since Toys R Us exclusive BrickHeadz, based on The LEGO NINJAGO Movie, were revealed. We didn’t even think we’d be getting any from TLNM beforehand - but sure enough, here they are!

The first of the two we will be taking a look at is 41487 Lloyd. Is he worth doing a flip for, or should you concentrate your Spinjitzu energy towards others in the line? Find out after the break!

The Completed Model

Each BrickHeadz figure contains a black display stand with the logo of the theme, and Lloyd is no exception. However, there are a few major differences between Lloyd and Wu’s base, and the rest. First, they are longer in length (6x6 rather than 4x6), similar to the base included in 41595 Belle. However, there is nothing that would make Lloyd not able to fit on the normal base properly, so I am unsure of this change.

The other difference is a printed location pinpoint next to the logo instead of a series number, indicating Lloyd’s status as a retail exclusive. This is a nice little detail and reminds me of the SDCC-exclusive printed plates.

The ninja variant of the Lloyd Garmadon minifigure is one of my favorites in the LEGO NINJAGO Movie line, for I enjoy the striking contrast that the black and green offers. It is put to great use here, with dark and bright green, black and hints of gold. Lloyd is also equipped with the new-to-TLNM dao sword mold with gold tassel tailing it, which is a wonderful inclusion for those who don’t have (or want) the minifigure.

The eyes are exclusive in this common green color, which may bring to mind this year’s SDCC exclusive Martian Manhunter’s red eyes. This certainly is a feature that will make this figure stand out in your collection.

While I appreciate the curves of the black mask and green band on the forehead, I can’t help but feel let down by the studded top of the head. Some more curved, studless pieces would have been ideal.

Internally, Lloyd does not stray away from the typical BrickHeadz template - this consists of different colors and bricks built in to incorporate SNOT (studs not on top) techniques.

Perhaps my favorite detail of the model is the printed 1x4 brick included to represent the chest area of Lloyd’s shinobi shozoku. On either side is a golden diamond symbol, and the center exhibits his robe lining. What is even better is that the printing matches up perfectly with the brick-built elements above and below the print.

The back hasn't skimped on detail either, as the belt continues to the back, and above it the printed Secret Ninja Force logo. Another particular detail that was not overlooked is the tie of the headband, which very closely resembles that of the minifig's!

Verdict

This is a truly exceptional BrickHead. There is detail in both construction and printed elements from head to toe. However, the fact that Lloyd is one of my favorite LEGO characters of all time, not just from NINJAGO, definitely makes me a little biased.

I do recommend the set for anyone just looking for a good BrickHead. There are already plenty to choose from this year, but if you enjoyed The LEGO NINJAGO Movie, collect BrickHeadz, collect everything based on the film, or simply buy one set from each represented franchise in the line, then this is the set for you!

Plus, he is only $10. Therefore, you don’t really have much of a choice here. ;-) NINJA-GO to the store and purchase 41487 Lloyd!

I hope you have found this review informative. Let us know by liking this article and share your thoughts on the set in the comments below.

Thanks to my good friend MC_Survival_man for the photos.

Don't understand the exclusivity...they are apparently "Coming Soon on 1 Nov 2017" on Lego.com?

Ow I see...exclusive as in "we are exclusively the only other retailer other than Lego themselves that can sell you this thing"...now I get it!

Probably the only brickhead I'll get before the star wars ones come out next year

By in United States,

There's also a free movie ticket promo with purchase, at least that's how it rang up, but the employees were unaware of it at time of purchase.

Outside the US, will these be available at normal retailers - or only through (online) Lego shop?

By in Austria,

From the description what catches my attention is the printed elements from head to toe! In a $10 set and already a complete printed elements can be used. Why not on a $800 set?

@audiobean: The printed parts in this set are all ones that have been printed before, for starters.
