6868 Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout

6868 Hulk's Helicarrier BreakoutTo conclude my mini-reviews of the Marvel sets, here's a quick look at 6868 Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout.

This is the second largest of the Marvel sets. It consists of four minifigs, a SHEILD jet plane and some sort of laboratory. The laboratory no doubt adds some play interest to the set but I have no idea what it's supposed to be or what happens in it. Maybe that will become apparent in the movie.

For me however, the minifigs and jet plane are far more interesting although it's perhaps disappointing that the only unique one in it is Hulk.

6868 Hulk's Helicarrier BreakoutThe minifigs are Loki (his 3rd appearance, presumably he's the baddie in the movie?), Thor, Hawkeye and Hulk. To call Hulk a minifig is a bit misleading though, as he's double the height of regular figs. He's made in China (the polythene packaging gives that away) and consists of 5 parts: his legs/torso/head are one part, his arms and hands make up the other four. As with the vast majority of Chinese parts such as these, the quality is top-notch.

6868 Hulk's Helicarrier BreakoutThe jet plane is very reminscent of the Agents sets, in particular the dark blue and yellow colour scheme. It's actually a very nice model in its own right, and certainly very swooshable. It has a mechanism built in to jettison the cockpit: maybe to re-enact a scene in the movie?

I haven't photographed the lab. as my setup can't handle large models such as that, so you'll have to look at the official pictures instead.

So to summarise, this is a nice set but the duplication of minifigs with other sets is a little disappointing.

And to summarise the reviews of the Marvel sets, which one do I think is best, having built them all? I'd say 6866 Wolverine's Chopper Showdown because it's only £20/$20, the three minifigs are all very cool and unique to the set, the helicopter is great and, well, it has the best minifig in it: Wolverine...

The Hulk is definately the main draw here, and if this set had Iron Man then I could quite happily pass on all the other Avengers sets (which is presumably why they've placed the figs in the sets that they have). Loving the pro-Chinese reference. And yes @huw Loki is the main baddie/antagonist (as he is in Thor) though I'm sure those funky looking alien figs will play some role as well.

I like the Hulk, but the set itself is a little bare-bones for my taste. I was never to big on the playset-style models, personally. I'll just have to get the minifig Hulk when the promotion starts!

These work great for comic readers, regardless of the movie and with the emphasis on characters, surely there's no need to buy more than our favourite costume version of each mini figure? (as if).

That top notch production in China no doubt affording the giant green MF parts, I wonder what that saves TLG?

I like that you think Wolverine is the best minifigure, even without a movie this year. I hope LEGO isn't restricted to Avengers tie-ins for future sets. There are so many Marvel (and DC) characters that deserve minifigures. I do like Thor and Iron Man and will need to consider getting some of these sets, even though my wallet will be drained later this year for LOTR.

I agree with @dragon_teenager. This set is to bare 4 a scene in the helicarrier. They c have included Nick Fury or any other shield agent to along with hawkeye for that matter.

SHIELD (Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law-enforcement Division) rather than SHEILD.

I think this set for £49.99 is overpriced with just a jet, four figs and a mediocre play set with no stairs to the upper lab. I think it should be £34.99.

Ironically, jakeblast has already posted a review here on Brickset with this little tidbit towards the Chinese production quality:

"..only one bad thing came with it. my hulk came with 2 left arms..."

As with the vast majority of Chinese parts such as these, the quality is top-notch.

@dixondog - The mechanism in the plane blows the cockpit canopy off. I think it is recreating a bit of the film where Hulk tears it off to get at the pilot.
My Marvel reviews are gradually being posted and this set is next on my hit list. I am sure you are very busy Huw but are you planning on doing more reviews like these in future on Lord of the Rings sets etc.?

^ If I get them in time to make it worthwhile, then yes.

Will you be doing a Super Heroes Marvel minifigure gallery anytime soon Huw? I hope so, you have all of the minifigures, after all ^_^

I agree 100% with Jacob Wilson, that hulk is LAME.

Just assembling (pun intended) this set now. It's worth it just for the Hulk, even if he is MIC. Great set, I am a fan of diorama / playset models, but would have liked to see a SHIELD agent or two to man the lab. Perhaps I'll recruit a couple of my City police officers?

I just found all the Marvel sets at my local Wal-Mart.... In the clearance isle? They weren't actually on sale, but some of them were very crushed/beat up. There were none in the Lego isle, and no price tag or empty space where they should have been.

^ Take them all up to the front and ask for a discount due to the boxes. You are sure to get one

I got the Wolverine Cycle at my Wal-Mart on Sunday. and Yes cashiers (or the CSM) are authorized to give a 10% discount on box damage.

Personally, I like the Hulk figure. I am glad they are going to release a normal scale version of him in a polybag, but I am also pleased that they have done the Hulk in this scale, best of both worlds really!

"the quality is top-notch" :P
even if he is made in china, Hulk looks pretty cool.

The only Marvel set I have not bought due to the price, and the fact I have every other figure except Hulk in the set. I can wait till they do him in his purple pants in a cheap-ish set. Any one intrested in the UK, Smyths Birmingham Castlevale have all of the Marvel sets, but the Wolverine one is hidden behind the Quinjet. Low stock on Captain America there, too.
