Review: 41236 Harley Quinn Dorm

We've published a new review every day for the last two weeks so I hope we are not overwhelming you!

We still have plenty more in the pipeline and today I examine the smallest of four Super Hero Girls sets, 41236 Harley Quinn Dorm, which is the resident class clown's second outing in a set.

Mini-doll

The set provides just one mini-doll, Harley Quinn, of course, but her attire is quite different from that she adorned in 41231 Harley Quinn to the Rescue, which LostInTranslation reviewed back in December. It's not as appealing or distinctive but at least it's different.

Her hair, however, is the same and I found it a bit ill-fitting. Try as I might I couldn't get it to sit on her head without a gap underneath.

She's equipped with every teenage girl's essential accessory these days: a selfie stick. The majority of decorated parts in the set are stickers but the blue 1x2 tile smartphone used here is printed.

Kryptomite

A cute Kryptomite is provided who, judging from the scribbles all over Harley's room, is mischievous with lipstick. I wonder if it's actually her pet because there are photos of the two of them in the room which you'll see below.

A pink party hat (not shown) is provided, which replaces one of the cheese slopes.

The completed model

Construction of the four sub-models in the set begins with this simple scooter which is based on the minifig skateboard. The figure can just about stand on the back but it's not very satisfactory.

Next to be built is this chair, complete with whoopee cushion (stickered) and box of popcorn (printed).

The backrest can be rotated to reveal a mirror and lights, presumably to aid the application of makeup. Unfortunately the Kryptomite has scribbled in the mirror with lipstick.

Next comes the bed and window assembly. For some reason there's another scribbled-on mirror in the centre of the windows, and the curtains obscure most of the rest of them so there's not going to be much daylight in the room. I'm not sure why a hair brush is affixed above the pelmet, I imagine it would be hard to reach up there.

The bed sits on a pink 8x8 circular plate; the pillows are decorated with the ace of spades and hearts (stickers).

When not in use the bed can be folded out of the way, obscuring the window completely. Underneath we see pictures of Harley and her Kryptomite: stickers on the bottom of 2x2 upside-down tiles (design 11203).

Connectors on the sides allow it to be joined up with other sets that make up the high school, 41235 Wonder Woman Dorm Room and 41232 Super Hero High School.

Finally we have a high striker fairground attraction, complete with massive mallet and smaller hammer.

As you would hope hitting the printed tile labelled Boom causes the red Technic part to travel up the pole to hit the 'bell' at the top, which of course isn't one.

Why does Harley Quinn have one of these in her dorm room? I've no idea...

Verdict

I have to confess to not watching many Super Heroes Girls videos although I did skim through a few today to see if I could get a glimpse of Harley's dorm room. I didn't encounter it although I did find a picture here that looks nothing like the content of the set but does show a high striker in the room.

Nevertheless I can imagine that the set as is will provide ample play opportunities for fans of the show.

However, there's not a lot here that will appeal to adult fans (no new parts, few recolours) unless you're collecting all the sets in the theme, or all the mini-dolls.

It's a bright and fun set but with hundreds of others about to be released I suspect it'll be well down most people's wanted list.

This, and the other four Super Hero Girls summer releases, will be available on June 1st.

Thanks to LEGO for providing the set for review. The review is an expression of my own opinions.

Wait Harley quinn to the rescue!? I have not seen that set before. Did Lego forget Harley is a villan or What!?

^She's more mischievous in the show.

I'm not fussed by the set & it looks like Harley is in her pyjamas.
This would have to be heavily discounted for me to pick it up

Oh - not overwhelmed at all. If you can keep up the reviews, I can happily keep up the reading

In this show she's a hero.

I could say a lot of words right now, but I'm just gonna say four: LEGO Selfie Stick? Seriously?

I haven't watched the series but love these "dorm rooms" that are tailored to the specific characters and can attach to the Super Hero High School set. I hope that if this theme continues we might continue to see dorms for other characters!

I think my favourite thing about this set is the printed popcorn box. Not a set I feel compelled to buy. But thanks for the review Huw!

I'm only mildly interested in this set for the parts. However, I just wanted to say I'm not overwhelmed with the number of reviews. You guys are doing a great job and please keep the reviews coming, the more the better!

In this set she's in her pajamas. They are a nod to her original costume from Batman: The Animated Series. It's a nice easter egg they put in the movie Hero of the Year, and one of the little touches that make this series far better than one would expect.

Harley hasn't been a straight-up villain for a while now; she's moved more into insane anti-hero recently due to her massive popularity and the increased marketability of greyer morality.

I believe her bed is supposed to look like a trampoline, which is a great detail.

^^ That's the one I linked to. Loos nothing like the set, does it...

The new outfits this year and the hero vehicles in the two bigger sets look good, but all the large, dark buildings don't seem very appealing.

This one just is not as appealing as the Wonder Woman dorm room in my opinion. I may pick it up just because we have the high school and the WW one, but somehow something seems "off" about it. Thanks for the all the reviews - love them!

Oh, if only the whoopie cushion were a printed piece...
