20K views · 3.4K reactions | Let’s preserve some cherries! 🍒 🧊 Freezing: pit cherries and freeze on a lined sheet pan. Once frozen transfer to an airtight container. 💨 Dehydrating: 🍒 For fruit leather combine 2 cups of cherries and 1/4 cup of lime juice as well as the zest of the limes. With all the lime this is TART, so I’d suggest adding in the juice of one lime at a time and taste testing! Dehydrate in a dehydrator for 8 hours on the fruit setting (135°) or in an oven on your lowest setting for about 3 hours. 🍒 For whole cherries and pieces line up on dehydrator sheets and dehydrate for about 12 hours on the fruit setting. You’ll know they’re finished when they no longer squish when you touch them and pull away from the dehydrating sheet easily. In an oven this GREATLY varies depending on water content. Dehydrate on the oven’s lowest setting checking for the same signs as in a dehydrator. 🫙 Cherry Preserves. I make this as simple as can be so when I use it later I can add ingredients based on use! For every four cups of cherries add in 1/2 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Bring to a boil and press cherries to break them up. Let simmer to reduce, about 30 minutes. These can be refrigerated for about 3 weeks or use the water bath canning method for a 10 minute processing time. #foodpreservation #urbanhomestead #lowwaste #zerowaste #foodwaste #slowliving #recipe #slowliving #canning #cherry #denver #healthylifestyle | Kait Welch - Modern Hippie Habits | modhippiehabits · Original audio

honey mustard and beets in jars with the words honey mustard mustard brine
417K views · 11K reactions | We LOVE mustard around here, and this Honey Mustard Pickling Brine is pretty special! • This is one my husband and I have worked on throughout our relationship…and has been adjusted to our liking through the years. • This brine is adapted from a traditional honey mustard pickle recipe that my mother and grandmother made for me growing up. • It’s tangy and savory and so versatile! • Really, this could be a salad dressing, on its own, and the flavors lend to that as well: • Think honey mustard meets Italian dressing…sort of. • We use this for pickled beets that you see here (I roast the beets in the oven with olive oil and salt and pepper first), for pickling cucumbers, and also for marinades on our farm raised beef and chicken! 🤤 • This recipe yields 8 pints, so adjust as needed! (For approximately 6 pounds of produce that is being pickled) • Ingredients: 6 cups of ACV 3 cups filtered water 3 cups raw honey 2 Tablespoons pickling salt 6 Tablespoons mustard powder 1 Tablespoon turmeric powder 1.5 teaspoons of each: coriander seed, black peppercorn, mustard seed, clove • Instructions: 1) In a large pot, combine all ingredients…vinegar, water, honey, and dry ingredients (salt, mustard powder, pickling spices, and turmeric). 2) Bring to a boil, stirring well to dissolve the honey and salt. 3) Once brine comes to a boil, cook an additional 10-15 minutes, to taste, and to ensure everything is dissolved. 4) Once it tastes right to you, (add or takeaway whatever works for you and your family!) pour over whatever veggie you’re canning and then either process in a water bath canner for 10 minutes, or place right into the fridge and allow to fridge pickle for 2 weeks before enjoying! • And that’s it! Tangy and savory and so good! • (The yellow brine will turn a solid red when packed in with beets, but remains golden with pickles or onions…things like that 💕) - - - - - #pickles #brine #honeymustard #foodpreservation #picklingbrine #pickling #beets #picklesofinstagram #smallfarm #recipes #homestead #homesteadersofinstagram #homesteaders | Tonya Snyder | Talking Heads · Burning Down the House
