Infertility & Mental Health
Does infertility affect your mental health? Infertility is often a silent struggle. Dr. Roohi Jeelani explains that studies have shown that people with infertility experience significant anxiety and emotional distress. Studies have also shown that fertility patients are at a higher risk of developing mental health issues, including burnout, stress, ptsd, depression, isolation, PPD, and loss of control. Depression levels in patients with infertility have been compared with patients who have been diagnosed with cancer. Patients who undergo assisted reproductive treatment (ART) are at significant risk of experiencing psychiatric disorders, and it is important to recognize this and assist patients as they cope with their infertility diagnosis and treatment.
