Brown bears (Ursus arctos) and grizzly bears (Ursus arctos horribilis) are basically the same animal living in different areas. Alaskan bears that fish along the coast run larger because of their high salmon diet, ranging from 800 to 1,200 lb (360 to 540 kg).
