The beam above the hob meant a traditional chimney extractor was out of the question. Instead, we designed and built a mock chimney breast and fitted a flush extractor. It looks right and works perfectly. The mantle is made from two corbels with a length of plinth on it. We also built the cheeks so they were floating above the units. That way, when the worktop was templated, it could be fitted by just sliding it under in one piece. No need for any unsightly joints or weak points.
