Detail front closure, sleeved waistcoat, fabric: England, garment: America, c. 1759. Flame-orange figured silk with an abstract feather/scroll and leaf design. The dense embroidery consists of silver metallic threads over stiffened paper scroll cut-outs, appliquéd onto the ground fabric, silver buillion embroidery, pailletes and flattened strips decorate the wooden buttons.
