Next academic year I will be moving from Year 3 into Year 4 which has involved moving all of my things upstairs to a new classroom. I saw it as a good opportunity to freshen things up a bit and try some new ideas. Many of the teacher blogs I follow often share their classrooms so I thought I'd join the club. Enjoy the pictures! This is the inside of my classroom door. Hopefully it'll inspire the children a bit and they'll look forward to coming in every day. I saw a similar idea here. This…

Word of the Day--new word, beyond the vocabulary list from the weekly story. Discussed briefly, added to wall display, and kids keep track of in some sort of journal. You'll quickly learn that I love the Daily 5 for Literacy! Our 2nd grade team pioneered the Daily 5 last year and since then we are singing it's praises. We have even led 2 rounds of workshops for the rest of our staff to get them into the Daily 5 as well. Last year I learned so much about literacy and reading and getting kids motivated to read! This year I am trying to hone in on what I am teaching and figure out the best practices to teach each strategy or skill. One area of Daily 5 that I…

Word of the Week I got this idea from the amazing Facebook GroupSchool Librarian's Workshop(Closed Group must request to join). My students don't have a lot of browsing time in the library so I opened the dictionary up to the page with the word. I'm hoping it will help students build their vocabulary and at least see what the inside of a real dictionary looks like! I put this on top of my class set of dictionaries. I'll be posting my list of words used atRIYL Libraries. You don't have to b Word Of The Week Display, Library Letter Board, Brooklyn Library, Middle School Bulletin Boards, Library Space, List Of Words, Word Of The Week, Middle School Libraries, Library Book Displays

Word of the Week Display! This is presented on the left side of Mrs. Windle's fourth grade classroom. It is located alongside the I PICK and Reading Response Exit Slips. I will most definitely be implementing this in my future classroom, so that my students vocabulary can increase in both what they read and write. super cute lesson about using a word besides "said" in a sentence...it even has them becoming sentence surgeons and removing "said" from the sentence and replacing it with a better word! Personal Narratives, Instead Of Said, Classroom Anchor Charts, 2nd Grade Writing, 1st Grade Writing, Writing Anchor Charts, 4th Grade Writing, First Grade Writing, Future Teacher

Hello Everyone! Just another quick post tonight. (I know all my posts have been quick lately) Today we worked a little more on dialogue in our reading and writing. We brainstormed other words to use instead of "said" on to our newest anchor chart. The kiddos then had the opportunity to become Sentence Surgeons again…
