The Kanji (Japanese ideogram) for mindfulness, nen, is comprised of two elements. The upper character, ima, the roof-like peak signifies this present moment, the Now. The symbol beneath is kokoro or shin, translated as Mind and/or Heart. Combined, ima and shin symbolize the unification of mind and heart in this present moment, in full awareness and appreciation of one’s lived experience.
