Armeria Ballerina Lilac - Common name: Sea Thrift - Pom-pom globes of lilac pink dance above strapping evergreen foliage. Charming in rock gardens or as an edger for summer color. Gather flowers to display in your favorite bud vase. Also known as False Sea Thrift, Armeria pseudarmeria display broad evergreen foliage instead of the grassy tufts of true Sea Thrift. Sporadic reblooming occurs from late summer to early fall.

This time of year Chesil Beach, nr. Portland develops a light pink glow as thrift (Armeria maritima) dominates the normally quite dull greeny edges. It is a rather surreal experience sitting amongst thousands of delicate perfectly formed flowers when for the rest of the year you wouldn't even know they were there!

Thrift (Armreia maritime) This short tufted perennial grows to approximately 30cm. The flowers are small, pink in tight round heads and on downy leafless stalks above cushions of rather fleshy narrow leaves. This plant begins to flower in April and finishes toward the end of the summer. This plant is particularly at home around sea cliffs and in particular around Malin Head.
