The Sambar Deer (Rusa unicolor) is a species of deer from the rainforests of India, Southern China, and Southeast Asia. Like most deer, male sambar have antlers, while females lack them. They are an extremely common food item for the likes of dholes, Indian leopards, and Bengal tigers. The sambar deer is a Vulnerable species due to severe hunting, insurgency, and industrial exploitation of habitat.
