Russian Textiles and Folk Inspired Ceramics

I've been working on designs for clients last week and also working towards possibly launching some of my own ceramics, so it's been a busy time. I can't blog my designs but I thought I'd take the opportunity to blog some patterns from one of my favourite books 'Russian Textiles Printed Cloth for the Bazaars of Central Asia'. I love the richness of the patterns and the colours. I've thumbed through this book many times, and used it to help with my graphic folk ceramic design enclosed.

This object is from the collection of Natalia de Shabelsky (1841-1905), a Russian noblewoman compelled to preserve what she perceived as the vanishing folk art traditions of her native country. Traveling extensively throughout Great Russia, she collected many fine examples of textile art of the wealthy peasant class
