Byzantine Mosaics
Byzantine ceiling mosaic representing the night sky, 5th century CE. Galla Placidia Mausoleum, Ravenna, Italy. The building was formerly the oratory of the Church of the Holy Cross and now contains three sarcophagi. The largest sarcophagus was thought to contain the remains of Galla Placidia (died c. 450 CE), the daughter of the Roman Emperor Theodosius I (r. 379-395 CE).
