Gelli Arts® Gel Printing on Instagram: "Our Day 26 #MarchPrintingChallenge prompt is a long-time favorite amongst our Artist Team! 👩🏻‍🎨 IMAGE TRANSFER!📷🌸💛 Gelli Artist® @michelle_mixedmedia used a vintage image, which is public domain, for this image transfer. She double printed a laser copy to build up toner on the paper. Then she rolled out some black acrylic paint on the Gelli Arts® Gel Printing Plate and placed the laser print face down on it. After a few seconds of smoothing the paper for good contact with the paint and plate, she pulled the laser print off the gel plate. Wanting to change the image as it wasn’t quite what she expected, Michelle used cotton buds and a damp paper towel to remove some of the image. After placing the flower in the wet paint on the plate I used tissue paper to remove as much paint as possible from around the flower. Then I used a baby wipe to clean up the rest. Painted the flower, then used gold to pick up the print on a music paper background. All paints are Art acrylics, I let the paint dry between every layer, the music sheet was photo copied onto 200gr copier paper. I left the paper on the gel plate until everything was dry. This print kind of reminds me of poëziealbumplaatjes which I can’t translate and I think is something typical Dutch and German? Using alcohol inks on a gel plate isn't something I do a lot, I think this is only the second or third time I am trying. Alcohol Ink dries really fast, so there are loads of fun techniques you do with them. If you don't have alcohol inks, you can use alcohol based markers to doodle on your gel plate and pull your print the same way with acrylic paint! Keep in mind that alcohol ink can stain your gel plate, but that's completely OK! It won't affect how it prints in the future 😉 Have you tried alcohol inks on a gel plate?
