Organic and geometric shapes art

Abstract Emotions- prismacolor marker on illustration board. (n.d). Abstract emotions is a piece I created along side of my students. It is a class project which I felt compelled to create. The work uses geometric and organic shape and color choices are alternating between warm and cool. Everyday in a classroom is new and the chaos of this piece represents how I feel as an art teacher.

Today I had 5 children out of my Year 3 class who had completely finished the class project, so I did a quick, fun, abstract art activity with them using our new paint sticks. They had to create a variety of geometric and organic shapes that overlapped and then trace around all the shapes, including overlapping parts, with permanent marker. They then used the Posca pens to make patterns inside each part. So bright and gorgeous and the others wanted to do it so much they sped up their work.

These projects began as a balanced, asymmetrical design using nonrepresentational geometric and organic shapes. Once the students from Port Huron Northern High School created their original design, they transferred it to a larger piece of paper four times to create a symmetrical design.
