The girl in yellow dress is a kind of mascot for this militia group (or Arquebusiers*). Rembrandt has used her to display their traditional emblems in a natural way: the claws of a dead chicken on her belt represent the arquebus (hook gun); the pistol behind the chicken stands for 'clover'; and, she is holding the militia's goblet.
