Lavender has been used for a very long time, with the earliest documentation of it going back 2500 years. It used to be called “Spikenard” and is even referred to in the bible. The Ancient Egyptians would use lavender as a perfume and also in their mummification rituals. This may be because lavender has antibacterial properties so it would have been useful for keeping bacteria away from the mummy.
