Julie Thomas on Instagram: "This simple woodgrain technique gets a modern update with neutral tones. I shared some tips in my previous post on how to achieve the look, but I thought a video would be helpful for those who aren’t familiar with the process. I like to use some of the same colors I also used for the flood icing so the wood grain matches the base color. Here I’m using a flood color with equal parts of Americolor taupe, cork, and fog. For the darker woodgrain color, I used a drop of cork, taupe, and espresso along with 2 drops of white. Paint a line of the gel color along the inside seam of the piping bag before filling it with your flood icing. Start piping from one side to the other, making the occasional swirl to mimic the wood knots.
