Rather, she was kind, very down to earth, and a talented artist herself - the sale of her watercolors would later help sustain her immediate family in exile. Four years before this portrait was painted, she'd been pushed/stumbled into a marriage which was the great mistake of her life. Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna, in formal Russian Court dress.

Designed as twenty-six graduated cushion-cut diamonds, mounted in gold and silver, circa 1860, currently 38.0 cm long, in red leather Cartier case. Typical with jewellery from the time, the old mine cuts are mounted onto a silver backing to improve the stones colour.
