It’s made of about 250 individual 4” x 4” squares cut from secondhand material & scraps, patchworked together & quilted. The jumper has lantern sleeves for the balloon shape, two ties that can tighten the hood (tested this today with some classic Melbourne wind & rain), a hearty front pocket & a tab to hang the jacket from inside. It was so rewarding to draft this pattern & see the idea come to life. FROM CARLY B on Instagram: "patchwork rock climbing pants ⛰️🧗🏼✨ Just wrote a detailed pattern breakdown all about how I designed & created these pants as a present to my boyfriend in October of last year. (It’s up on my Patreon now!) I wanted to make them as functional as possible & it took me about a month of researching & watching climbers at the gym to dissect what makes a climbing pant GOOD. I personally really enjoyed plentiful pockets, at least one utility loop for a chalk bag, durable fabric that is still breathable & elastic fastenings on the hem to reduce bulk when working on slabs & balance projects. I especially wanted to create a design that would patch up nicely when it would inevitably tear & wear out in points that cop a lot of pressure (knee bars I’m looking at you…..
