Eero Saarinen

Thomas de Monchaux writes on “Ezra Stoller: A Photographic History of Modern American Architecture,” a new monograph, published by Phaidon, of the architectural photographer’s work.

Driven by a powerful spirit, Eero Saarinen was a renowned twenty-first-century architect and designer. He adopted a sculptural approach to conceptualize his works, carrying a deep investigation into Expressionism and Modernism. His experimentation with shapes, colors, and finishes allowed his work to enter a broad international panorama and outlined his artistic language. Among his most famous design creations, a significant part consists of the collection he conceived for the brand Knoll.

The exemplary career of Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen demonstrates how talent can indeed run in the family. An individual who looked to the future, and often sky, with his bold visionary designs where both loved and loathed.
