I stumbled across Wycinanki designs while I was looking for some pins about traditional European dress (see my "Under the Sun" boards) and I liked it so much, it spawned this board. Over time it has grown to include some Kaszubski embroidery designs as well as Wycinanki papercut designs, some folky-zentangles and Eastern European-looking artworks - and in all cases, just the ones I really like...

Original, handmade designs inspired by traditional Polish, Hungarian and Eastern European art.... The Story I come to a doorway. It is wooden, and hand-carved with stars and suns that remind me of my place on earth. I pass through this threshold, and I enter another time, another place, another way. I see tanned, wrinkled hands painting a yellow flower on a white-washed, masonry stove. Red geraniums brighten a window sill. Streams of sunlight shine through an intricately cut paper curtain…

As a child I had a lovely rocking horse a family friend brought from Russia. Of course as a kid, I never appreciated the hand painted flowers or the intricate woodwork, but after rediscovering that treasure last time I visited my parents, I now have a new found appreciation for eastern European folk art.
