We made the animals and cacti out of polymer clay; deer moss was used for tumbleweeds; and the signs/labels were made with craft sticks. We also had to [creatively] show at least two threats to the habitat, so we chose drought and poison.

Desert habitat diorama. I made it for my son's 1st grade project. Used shoe box, paper, glue, markers, watercolor, clear tape, cardboard, sand, stones and animals from a Dollar store.

Children learn about the environment and habitats from biology books as theory. There is not much media to use in a classroom to learn this especially when it comes to teaching in kindergarten or in the early grade of elementary school.
