This beautiful avenue of beech trees known as the “Dark Hedges” was planted in the 18th century by the Stuart family as a landscape feature on the approach to their house in County Antrim. It is a popular tourist attraction on the Bregagh Road near the village of Stranocum. Locally it is said to be haunted by the “Grey Lady,” a ghost who appears to pass by the trees at dusk and disappears as she passes the last tree. The Dark Hedges is a very popular tourist attraction on the Bregagh Road near the village of Stranocum. The small avenue of three hundred year old beech trees has even been used as a scene from the hit HBO’s series “Game of Thrones.” It even has its own ghost known locally as the “Grey Lady” who appears to pass by the trees at dusk.
