Clay sculpture animal

I'm Kate Jihye Yun, ceramic animal sculptutor studing BA Decorative Arts at Nottingham Trent University. I developed my ceramic sculptures based on an interest for abandoned animals.

I need to start learning the mold-making process, so I sculpted a small image of a fox in oil-based clay. I chose the animal and the pose to make for as easy of a mold as possible - notice that the entire composition is very pyramid in shape. I made a simple armature of a nail driven into a small wooden disc. Then I used oil-based clay to sculpt the fox in a more stylized manner. My grandmas life long dream was to ride in a hot air balloon over the Serengeti. For her 70th birthday, part of my family and I got to be with her as that dream came true in an 8 day trip through Tanzania. While we were in Tanzania we saw hundreds of Elephants, or Elleys as our guide called them. I fell in love with Elleys so I had to make two.
