Clarissa Harlowe "Clara" Barton c. 1866. Known as the "Angel of the Battlefield", she worked as a nurse on the front lines during the Civil War. During the Franco-Prussian War she helped with the preparation of military hospitals. She was awarded the Golden Cross of Baden and the Prussian Iron Cross.
