Glass celestial sphere (72269/57/1), engraved by John Cowley, 1739, with globe stand by Heath & Wing, London, in the second half of the 18th century. Sphere broken and repaired during 1900s as the cracked and rivetted globe encloses a Newton terrestrial globe with printed gores dated Jan 1st 1897.

An armillary sphere (variations are known as spherical astrolabe, armilla, or armil) is a model of objects in the sky (in the celestial sphere), consisting of a spherical framework of rings, centred on Earth, that represent lines of celestial longitude and latitude and other astronomically important features such as the ecliptic. As such, it differs from a celestial globe, which is a smooth sphere whose principal purpose is to map the constellations.

This 1824 "cosmosphere" consists of a printed terrestrial globe, set inside a revolving glass celestial globe. It was invented by Dr William Muller, a major of the Royal Hanoverian Engineers from Woolwich, and made by the Cary brothers.
