These are called bò lá lốt in Vietnamese and it’s grilled beef wrapped in heart shaped lá lốt leaves. If you search for the leaf on Google, these leaves are COMMONLY MISTAKEN for Betel leaves in English, but the correct name is PIPER SARMENTOSUM (also referred to as Piper Lolot). Although they look similar, do not confuse these leaves for the ones chewed with betel nut. These leaves have a mild peppery taste and a very unique but subtle smell when cooked. I’m glad my girlfriend decided to make them because they’re so flavourful and the bite-sized rolls make you want to keep eating them because you can’t get enough.
