The picture is of a raft, in the story I think plays a big part in the book. When the slave and Huck are traveling down the Mississippi river to run away. there was thick fog which split them up, but huck got back onto the raft when the slave was sleeping. When the slave woke up he sees huck. Huck says he was there all the time but he lied and it hurt the slaves feelings and huck apologized to him. in the book this means that they grew a strong friendship with each other.
